Funeral of Mama Sarah Ako Agbor-Tab

Late Mama Sarah Ako-Tabi
Prof. And Mrs Agbor-Tabi celebrate “Manjom” in Mamfe
A rare mix of the who is who and who is not who from all over Manyu Division and Cameroon at large converged on Mamfe Town, Friday and Saturday 26 and 27 September 2014 to join Prof. Nfor Peter Agbor-Tabi and his wife, madam Agbor-Tabi and their siblings, in celebrating the life and achievements of their mother, mother-in-law, grand-mother, sister and aunt, Mama Sarah Ako-Tabi (manjom), who died recently in Mamfe at age 80.
By Ayukogem Steven Ojong on special assignment in Mamfe

In his characteristic calm, sober, harmless and very comforting disposition Prof. Nfor Peter Agbor-Tabi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Presidency and Traditional Ruler of Ndekwai village, took turns to welcome the thousands of mourners who thronged into his modest but very expansive compound in GRA Mamfe to express their condolences to the minister and his siblings for the loss of their beloved, sweet mother, Mama Sarah Ako Agbor-Tabi (Manjom).
As courteous as he is known to be, Prof. Nfor Agbor-Tabi, after welcoming his guests, made sure each of them also met with and greeted his pretty and lovely wife; his better-half, Mrs Agbor-Tabi, who is a former director of the United States Peace Corps in Cameroon.
As it is believed here, that when husband and wife live together for long they resemble each other, so too was Mrs Agbor-Tabi very like her husband in nature and disposition. She responded to the guests with a soft, charming and very comforting voice.

Plying the B’da-Mamfe-Ekok road

Mamfe drivers should accept competition  and stop complaining
- Peter Tieh Ndeh, Manyu SDO

There have been conflicts of late between drivers in Mamfe and their colleagues from Bamenda over the use of the Bamenda-Mamfe–Ekok road. What exactly is the problem?

Firstly, I should precise what category of drivers; I will like us to talk of transporters and not drivers. There was a problem between uncategorized transporters (drivers) in Mamfe and those in Bamenda and Ekok over the issue of carrying passengers and goods from Bamenda straight to Ekok and from Ekok straight to Bamenda without stopping in Mamfe. Drivers in Mamfe wanted that vehicles coming from Bamenda should stop in Mamfe so that passengers bound for Ekok should be transported only by Mamfe drivers; the same for vehicles leaving Ekok to Bamenda. That was the bone of contention between the two groups. It was in fact an issue of economic interest that had to be looked into carefully and appropriate solutions sought to it. But as we were watching to see how we could solve the problem, the drivers in Mamfe took the laws into their hands; they mounted road blocks on the highway and started controlling the drivers from Bamenda. This led to a serious fight between the two parties.

Peace reigns between Mamfe and B’da drivers

Ayuk Taku-Nchung John, Mayor of Mamfe

You were ordered by the SDO to look into the problems in the transport sector in Mamfe. What exactly did you do to solve the problem?

Yes, I convened a meeting with the drivers of Mamfe and spoke to them, making them to understand that what they were doing was against the law. Then I went up to Bamenda where I had another meeting with the president, Vice presidents, treasurer and advisers of the drivers union there. During the both meetings we arrived at a fraternal understanding. I emphasized on the fact that their operations were illegal because they don’t have the licence to do public transportation, talk less of driving across divisional and regional boundaries. I made them to understand that only legalised transport agencies are authorised to ply the highways. I told them that the administration allows them to go ahead with their business because we are conscious that they are rendering a service to the public and by so doing also helping themselves and the community. But I drew their attention to the fact that if their illegal activities will cause a breach of the peace then the administration will step in and halt them. So both parties that is, the Mamfe drivers union and their Bamenda colleagues all agreed to drop the hatchet and to operate in peace and harmony. I must say that calm now reigns in the sector and every body respects their limits.

Mukonje and Malende fighting over land

By Atemnkeng Evaristius in Kumba
The Chairman of the Mukonje Village Traditional Council, Otto Abange Alexander, has debunked allegations that he goes around selling parcels of land in Malende and Mukonje.
He has been accused by the Chief of Malende HRH Chief Esambi Peter Ngoh II for illegally selling parcels of land belonging to Malende village.
He was speaking during a press briefing recently that he does not have any thing to do with Malende land. That being the chairman in his village traditional council does not give him any local standing to sell land.
He lamented that if the Chief of Malende, HRH Chief Ngoh, is accusing him of selling his village land, he should let the Chief of Mukonje HRH Chief Dr.Ebanja know that his chairman is busy selling parcels of land belonging to Malende. He noted that if he as a chairman of Mukonje traditional council can sell parcels of land belonging to Malende then he is very certain that HRH Chief Ngoh is not the Chief of Malende village. He disclosed that Malende and Mokunje are brothers as they were called Malende-Mukonje but that the Chief of Malende is insisting that his village is called Malende-Kumba. The chairman challenged the Chief of Malende to ask the Paramount Chief of the Bafaws HRH Nfon V.E Mukete and others to show him his own boundary.
