Gov’t provides 700 Bags of fertilisers for Meme farmers

Farmers in some 29 farmer cooperatives in Kumba, chief town of Meme Division, have been donated 700 bags of fertilizers worth over FCFA 16 Million by the Support Project for the Use of Fertilisers in the Cocoa/Coffee Sub Sectors (PAUEF2CII). The donation is aimed to help the farmers to improve on the quality and quantity of their output in the 2017 farming season.

                The over 140 farmers selected from 29 cooperatives happily received the donation at the Divisional Delegation of Agriculture for Meme on Thursday September 7, 2017. 

                According to Fon Stanley, PAUEF2CII Charge' de Mission for Littoral and Southwest Regions, the donation falls under government's objective and strategy of producing 600 000 tons of cocoa and coffee by 2020. He noted that a part of the fertiliser donations government has also instituted plans like the opening of new farms and supply of chemicals like pesticides to protect the produce against the black pot disease.

                Quizzed on the criteria of selection for such donation, the Littoral and Southwest PAUEF2CII Charge' de Mission noted that the fertilisers are given to farmer cooperatives and not CIGs because of the OHADA law which gives priority to cooperatives. He added that with cooperatives there is a greater chance for accountability and strict follow up of such donations unlike with CIGs.

Man arrested for selling baby chimp

A man has been arrested following his attempts at selling a baby chimpanzee in Djoum, after travelling from Meyo III with the animal hidden inside a tiny little bag.

                The arrest that took place at about 7 pm on Friday September 9 was the result of a quick and incisive investigation that found out that the man, who is an inhabitant of Meyos III in the South Region, was actively searching for clients to buy the animal he has been grooming for some weeks.  Information from some sources in Meyo III indicated that he was impatiently searching for customers for the animal. .

                He failed to get a customer in Meyo III and decided to travel to Djoum, a town known for its trafficking activities, especially for illegal ivory trade. When he arrived the town, he was closely tracked by wildlife officials who waited for him to make a  moved to sell the chimp and was then  arrested.  The chimp was immediately checked to ascertain if it was in good shape and first aid treatment and food provided. The suspect shot and killed the mother of the chimp, sold part of the meat and ate some. He then kept the baby for sale as a pet.

                The 23-year old man would spent the night upon his arrest at the Djoum gendarmerie brigade and proceedings for the establishment of a case file continued the next day at the office of the Djoum wildlife chief. The chimp was then taken to the Mefou National Park where caregivers of the Ape Action Africa, an NGO that assist government in providing veterinary care and nourishment to chimps in the park, would  immediately set to work,  giving motherly care, support and affection to the baby chimp.

                This is the second baby chimpanzee saved within the past two weeks in the South Region. On August 29, a 43-year-old man was arrested by wildlife officials for illegal possession and transportation of a baby chimpanzee at the entrance to Ebolowa,

Senators Simon AchidiAchu of Mezam and DinghaBanyi Ignatius of Ngoketunja have encouraged the population of the North West region to shun fear and send their children back to school. The call comes after schools failed to effectively kick off in the Northwest region.

                During a press outing at Ayaba on Wednesday September 6, 2017 condemned in strong terms the ghost town that has completely paralysed economic activities in the region and the rampant burning of schools and government structures. They blamed the crisis on people “who do not have a focus and the interest of the population at heart”

                They were accompanied by Hon. Enwe Francis of Momo West constituency. According to Sen. Achidi the population is falling prey to these individuals who are using foul and dictatorial language to create a new state and are not ready to accommodate different sheds of opinion that is contrary to theirs.

Already 4190 cases of road accidents in 2017

Road accidents have killed at least 116 persons in August 2017 alone

For several weeks and months now, highways in Cameroon have been the scene of serious traffic accidents, claiming the lives of hundreds of road users and causing significant personal injuries and damage to property.

                Already described as a great concern, the resurgence of accidents has reached the danger level.

                The Government is not indifferent to this situation, which has serious consequences on the economic and social life of the nation.

                Reason why Communication Minister, IssaTchiroma used a press conference Thursday in Yaounde to “enlighten the national community on this preoccupying concern, and to present the measures taken so far to curb the phenomenon.”

                Tchiroma noted that Cameroon recorded the highest number of deaths from road accidents in the year 2010 when 1,200 deaths were recorded. He said the incidence dropped gradually up to 2014 when 1102 deaths were recorded.

                The government spokesman noted that unlike in 2014 when about 3088 cases of road accidents were reported, the situation is more alarming in 2017 when 4190 cases have been recorded in just the first eight months of the year, with 179 of these cases resulting to deaths, 784 causing personal injuries and 3227 resulting to property damage.

                In August 2017 alone, there were a total of 626 accidents of all categories, with 34 resulting to deaths, 79 to personal injuries and 513 to property damage.  Also, 98 deaths resulted from road accidents in August.

                Tchiroma attributed the growing phenomenon of road accidents to multi-form causes including human, material, infrastructure and environmental causes.

                The human causes hold drivers accountable for over speeding, risky overtaking, overloading of passengers and/or goods, driving under the influence of alcohol, unauthorized parking, non-respect of warning road signs and markings for vehicles in distress, use of phones while driving, lack of driving skills, overlapping of solid lines, just to name a few.

The Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, NgohNkelle Victor has used the Kumba City Council inter quarter football competition to campaign for effective resumption classes in the entire division for the 2017/2018 academic year.

                NgohNkelle Victor was speaking on Sunday September 3 at the Government Practicing School field during the closing ceremony of the 2017 Edition of the Kumba City Council Inter quarter football competition aimed at campaigning for school resumption in Meme Division in general and Kumba in particular.

                "The caption or theme of this inter quarter football was to sensitize children to go back to school. I just hope and pray the message of school resumption which the city council has preached for over one month during this competition has been passed across and i pray the parents do allow their children the opportunity to be educated by sending them to school" NgohNkelle pleaded while adding that "education is their inalienable right and it will be an unforgiveable crime and mistake for parents to jeopardise the future of the children by denying them the right to go to school.

Widikum solidarity tourney ends in style

The maiden edition of the Widikum Solidarity Tournament has turned out to be one of the most unifying events in the recent history of the town. This one month long tournament which was organised by Hon. Enwe Francis, MP for Momo West and Tayo Denise, the Lord Mayor of Widikum rounded up triumphantly on Saturday September 2, 2017 in a heavily attended final.

                The Widikum Solidarity Tournament assembled 13 Football teams divided into two pools and six female Hand Ball teams. The Female Hand Ball final was a hotly contested confrontation between Boffe United Hand Ball Club and Tikom Hand Ball Club. Boffe United emerged victorious with a slight 6-4 win over an equally good Tikom Hand Ball Club.

                Meantime, Cutting FC and Maya FC locked horns in the final of the Men’s Foot Ball category. In the hotly contested encounter that ensued, the winning team only emerged after post match penalties. Maya FC’s narrow 4-3 win over a no nonsense Cutting FC in post-match penalty shot out made them the maiden winners of the Widikum Solidarity Tournament.

Barrister Happi takes command

Barrister HappiYamdjeDieudonne is the president of the new Normalisation Committee of FECAFOOT. He has a six-month mandate

The 66-year old  was designated on Friday  8 September 2017 by a four-man joint CAF/FIFA delegates.  The renowned  Barrister-at-Law was designated  after a three day CAF/FIFA mission to Cameroon following a decision by FIFA on 23 August 2017 to create a Normalisation Committee.

                He was installed alongside the Vice President, Barrister Marcelle Denise Ambono.

Other members of the Committee are;

                Maurice BelletEdimo, Dr.AbdouOumerou and Njomo Kevin.

                Their assignment includes;  Running the daily affairs of FECAFOOT, drafting new statutes for Fecafoot in consultation with stakeholders and in compliance with FIFA’s statutes and national laws.
