Nkembi Luis- SWeCSON new President |
The general assembly that aimed at discussing the activities of SWeCSON as well as the election of a new executive to pilot the organisation was almost shattered as the outgoing executive failed to present the financial records of the organisation.
Making peace and arriving at an agreement took the member organisations extra-time owing to the fact that the out-going executive according to them had enough time to prepare a financial report. The executive that came into office in January 2010 saw their mandate extended by two years; to 2015 owing to failure to convene a general assembly since 2013.
All efforts by the outgoing president, Mr Dominick Ngwese to get members to vote a new executive despite the absence of a financial report met with an adamant electorate. After sundry deliberations and agreement members of the network notably AFRICAPHONIE and ERUDEF chose the ballot as a solution to reshape the network.
Mr Nkembi Luis was elected as SWeCSON’s new president, winning Esther Omam by 22 votes against 9. Madam Esther Omam was elected as Vice President by acclamation.
For the other positions, Barrister Elizabeth Atemkeng won as secretary general, Shey Benjamin as vice secretary general, Akang Samuel as Financial Secretary, Anu Gospel-as treasurer, while Ngwese Dominic (out-gone president), Nana Abunaw, Tabe Moses and Ntiege Hans were elected the network’s four advisers.
At the end of the general assembly, members of the network agreed on setting up an audit committee that will audit the finances of the out-gone executive.
The audit committee that comprise, Mr Tanda, Mr Taboko and Pastor Wose will prepare their report and submit before the network’s next session.
In the same vein, a five-man committee was set up to review the network’s constitution. The committee that is made up of Mr Orok Thomas, Mr Akan Samuel, Barrister Niba, Madame Agbor Meg and headed by Mr Ngwane George, have one month to present the new report upon which the new executive will operate.
The South West Civil Society Organisation Network has for the past five years (January 2010-2015) suffered the setbacks of political confrontations, blackmails, poor communication and the massive absence and non-participation of members in meetings. This has often times either taken the network behind or completely hindered its members from matching forward.
Amongst sundry promises made by the president-elect was the innovation of printing receipt booklets, the production of quarterly and semester reports, plus the identification and funding of sub-regional priorities. All these are aimed at building a model for the better socio-economic development of the South West Region and Cameroon as a whole.
