Energy Without Borders has promised more financial and technical support to the Strategic Humanitarian Services, SHUMAS as part of their combined efforts to promote renewable energy in Cameroon. For over four years the two organizations have trained and installed renewable energy systems in rural communities.
Thierry Reyners Brackman, representative of Energy Without Borders made the promise June 3, 2015 during the inauguration of SHUMAS’ renewable energy project at its Bamdzeng Biofarm, Bui Division of the North West region.
He underscored that the event demonstrated the importance of redressing energy crisis while encouraging SHUMAS staff for the realization of the project.
It was certainly with an understanding of the importance of renewable energy that North West Governor Adolf Lele L’Afrique personally presided over the inaugural ceremony.
He used the event to underscore the importance of renewable energy in Cameroon, a country plagued by persistent power cuts despite its huge energy potentials.
Wh ile commending the efforts of SHUMAS in realizing the project, he promised governments support to the scheme.
On his part the Director of SHUMAS, Nformi Stephen Ndzerem Njodzeka said the four year partnership between SHUMAS and Energy Without has resulted in the implantation of solar, wind and hydro energy forms at the Bamdzeng SHUMAS Integrated and Demonstration Centre. The scheme he explained is supplying power to the centre and neigbouring communities.
The project which falls under SHUMAS’ environmental Protection and Management programme has not only improved the livelihood of people without electricity in Bamzeng but is also helping in mitigating global warming.
In terms of renewable energy, SHUMAS has trained over 50 people on renewable energy installation and maintenance and has provided two schools and three health centres with solar panels and solar fridges.
