Calls for English version of OHADA law:

SDO bans lawyers’ press conference in Douala
Over 500 lawyers converged on Douala Saturday
The lawyers say 55 years after reunification of English and French Cameroons it is unacceptable that fundamental texts are published only in French. They wonder for example why there is no English version of the OHADA Law.
By Mercy Neba in Douala
Over 500 lawyers of English and French expression converged on Douala on Saturday 1st October 2016 for a press conference to press on the government to produce as a matter of extreme urgency the English version of the Uniform Business Law, OHADA. But the meeting that had the blessing of the DO of Douala 1, Jean-Marc Etoa Mbarga, was disallowed by the SDO for Wouri, Pal Nasseri Bea. The conference was convened at the behest of Senior Attorney of Cameroon (SAC), Barrister Roland Abeng, who is also a member of the Common Law Lawyers Conference that seeks to uphold and protect the virtues of the practice of Common Law in Cameroon.
Supported among others by the President of the Cameroon Bar Council, Jackson Gnie Kamga (SAC) and the President of the Bar General Assembly, Ntumfor Nico Halle (SAC), the meeting was going to be an opportune occasion for the learned men of law to urge the government to respect the constitution of the country which states unequivocally that all official documents in the country shall be in both English and French.

As Camwater crisis persists:

Who will Biya sacrifice – Jerome Eta or Roger Ondoa?
Expected back in the country anytime soon, President Paul Biya will have to urgently play the umpire in the decaying crisis at the Cameroon Water Utilities Company, Camwater, if only to avert an acute water crisis during the Women’s AFCON that comes up in November
By Essan-Ekoninyam in Yaounde
Hon. Jeroma Obi Eta
Who between the Board Chair and the General Manager respectively of Camwater is guilty of wrong-doing? President Paul Biya’s much-awaited verdict on the matter will certainly clear the air and of course edify Cameroonians and even some managers of public companies on how they are supposed to function, at least, in the New Deal context.
For weeks running the GM of the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation Camwater, Roger Ondoa Akoa has been at daggers-drawn with the company’s Board Chair, Hon. Jerome Obi Eta. Thought it is not immediately known what the exact bone of contention is, reports in the press talk of a disagreement over who has the pride of place to take major decisions in the company.
Reports said the already sour relations between GM and Board Chair have gotten worse following the cancellation by the Board Chair of some unilateral decisions taken by the GM. The decisions included notably the suspension of the signatures of two directors of the corporation- the Director of Assets and the Director of Administration and Finance.
Appointed barely several months ago, in February this year, it emerged that the GM of Camwater after commanding and procuring the report of an internal audit suspected the two directors of syphoning the company’s funds. Alphonse Ondoa Akoa therefore suspended the signatures of the two directors but this, without the express consent of the Board of Directors, as required by the law.

Peace prayer for Cameroon, Africa and the world

By Barrister Nico Halle in Douala
Iconic Peace crusader, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle
Almighty God, Alpha and Omega, You are Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. You are maker of the whole world and creator of Heaven and earth. You made man in your own image. Awesome image indeed. To demonstrate your love, you created all the resources for the welfare of man. Your love is unconditional, unquestionable and unimpeachable. Oh God, the evil one- the devil- has over the years invaded your pleasant world shredding it in the most brazen and wanton manner. Despite this sordid betrayal of man by yielding to the devil, you still continue to show love to your children all over the world. We come before the throne of your grace with contrite hearts owning up by naming the sins which have taken us away from your infinite love.
Merciful and everlasting Father some of our iniquities we bring before you as a sign of our admission of our sinful nature are: greed, hatred, jealousy, arrogance, pride, envy, hypocrisy, deceit, falsehood, indecency, theft, make belief, favouritism, concoction, manipulation, betrayal, corruption, bribery, embezzlement, heresy, electoral fraud, tribalism, election rigging, adultery, promiscuity, homosexuality, bigotry, chaos, disaster, disorder, racketeering, mercenary disposition, cover up, covetousness, laziness, inertia, levity, bootlicking, false pretence, exploitation, fraud, sexual harassment, lies, disloyalty, graft, haughtiness, waywardness, idolatry, cabal demagogy, disobedience, bad governance, impurity, intrigues, gimmicks, lawlessness, selfishness, conflict, violence, terrorism, unrest, wars, strife, genocide, carnage, ethnic cleansing, deprivation, destruction, vaulting and unbridled ambition, injustice, dictatorship, poverty, unemployment, tribalism, false imprisonment, power abuse, occultism, religious fundamentalism, mysticism, suicide bombing, in short decadence in all its forms.
The above iniquities and more have distanced us from your Grace. How can we explain Oh God, that Africa which is the richest continent on planet Earth is not only paradoxically very poor, but ridden with unrest and all kinds of atrocities? How can we explain Oh Lord that man that You made in your own image and placed to have dominion over your creation has fallen short of his responsibility and now crawling on his/her belly experiencing excruciating pains? Is it not man, Oh Lord, because of greed and hatred that has created terrorist groups namely, Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Islamic state of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the Middle East, FARC, NAZAL, just to name a few. These terrorist groups have committed great atrocities and wanton human rights violation all over the world. Some of the victim countries like Turkey, India, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Columbia, Yemen, Ukraine, Egypt, Libya, Mali and recently Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon have either been totally or partially shredded by kamikaze terrorist acts. Where has the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom, disappeared to? Why do your children waste a lot of resources in the manufacturing of arms of various brands, heavy weaponry especially weapons of mass destruction? What sense does it make to take life when one cannot give life? Despicable Indeed! When we look around, we see everything but love, peace and justice.
Oh God, unrest and strife will continue to be a major threat to the world if you do not look down on your children with pity. We have now advised ourselves Oh Lord, that your word is the Kingpin if we must be saved from self-destruction.
