Biased Reports on Terrorists Acts in NOSO:

Atanga Nji Evokes Plot to Destabilize Cameroon
-Fires grim warning at NGOs and media outfits that aid and abet atrocious activities of terrorists in Cameroon
By Doh Bertrand Nua in Yaounde
Minat Paul Atanga Nji has condemned false accusations on Cameroon Army by NGOs
Territorial Administrating Minister, Paul Atanga Nji, has accused some national and international Rights NGOs, Civil Society Organisations and media houses operating in Cameroon of being manipulated and sponsored by some dubious networks within and out of Cameroon to give a blind eye on terrorists attacks in the Anglophone regions, produce biased and fake reports on the situation of the crisis aimed to continuously tarnish the image of the Cameroonian military and the reputation of the government.
The Minat made the declaration in a press conference Monday 9 March 2020 at the conference hall of his ministry.
Assessing the activities of the aforementioned bodies, Atanga Nji noted that by virtue of Section 4 of Law N°90/53 of 19 December 1990 on the Freedom of Association which states inter alia that “Associations built on something else or with an objective contrary to the Constitution, as well as those that will jeopardise the security and territorial integrity, national unity and the Republican form of the State are null and void.” He said he can through an executive fiat, and in accordance with Section 13(2) of Law N°90/53 of 19 December 1990 and section 22(2) of Law N°99/014 of 22 December 1999, dissolve all NGOs that derail from their original objectives and whose activities pose a threat to public order and State security.
The interior minister disclosed that government has noticed with dismay that many NGOs have clearly revealed themselves as enemies of the state and laboratories of fake reports with the sole objective to tarnish the country’s image by regularly propagating information that is completely false on the management of crisis by government.
He boasted to have uncovered a dubious network of underground funders within and out of the country that finance the NGOs including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, International Crisis Group, OCHA, REDHAC and others.
He said verifiable facts have it that the sum of over FCFA 5 billion has been distributed to these NGOs to “destabilise State Institutions, regularly publish, through certain media and social media, fabricated information to discredit the efficient management of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions by the government; give the impression that Cameroon is not managing internally-displaced persons properly; demonstrate by all means that the crisis in the two regions is going from bad to worse and show through fake reports that Cameroon army is carrying out acts against the civilian population,”.
He condemned the “irresponsible behaviour” of NGOs that are tele-guided to deliberately minimise the glaring atrocities committed by terrorists in the two Anglophone regions.
He hailed government’s civilo-military actions and the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan which he said has assisted over 170.000 IDPs in the North West and South West Regions, as well as those living in other regions notably West, Centre and Littoral.
But Atanga Nji at once frowned at the comprador NGOs for throwing a blind eye to the efforts of government and the atrocities of terrorists.

Response to Conspiracy Accusations:

Equinoxe CEO Spits Venom at Atanga Nji
The General Manager of Equinoxe TV, Séverin Tchounkeu has said Equinoxe and its team are professional and will remain committed to their profession.

The General Manager of Equinoxe TV, Séverin Tchounkeu
“Relaying a report from an international organisation does not make you partisan. The role of the media is to set the record straight and give the platform to everyone, which is something Equinoxe TV has never failed to do,” Séverin Tchounkeu said on Equinoxe TV in response to Atanga Nji’s accusations on Monday.
The Minister accused Equinoxe and other news houses including STV, Radio Balafon and Le Jour newspaper, alongside local and international NGOs of plotting to destabilize Cameroon. But Severin Tchounkeu retorted that Atanga Nji hasn’t the prerogative to assess the work of news houses, talk less of having the requisite knowledge of the ethics and deontology of journalism practice.
“We were the only media house in Cameroon that took the risk and pain to go to Ngarbuh and investigate the killings that happened there…. But we took it upon ourselves not to broadcast a large part of the elements we brought back from the field….I am ashamed of what is going on in this country and I come here to express my total indignation. I challenge the Minat to go to the regulator and find out which news houses can be compared to Radio Mille Colline.”

-News culled from Mailonline-
Cameroonian protesters gave London Police a run for their time on Monday
Two protesters have been tackled to the ground outside Westminster Abbey today minutes before the Queen and the royal family were due to arrive for the annual Commonwealth Day service.
One suspect, carrying a bunch of white                 roses, was grabbed by the waist andpinned to the floor by officers guarding the road outside.
Another man with a large white banner was also held after apparently running from behind crash barriers into the cordoned off street and towards the Abbey.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘As part of the policing operation for Commonwealth Day celebrations, officers arrested two men for breach of Anti-Terrorism Road Traffic Regulations (ATTRO).
‘Both are in police custody. An operation remains in place whilst the celebrations are ongoing.’
The men are believed to have been among a group of men protesting about 'Commonwealth hypocrisy' over the treatment of people in Cameron.
The first suspect, carrying a bunch of white roses, was grabbed by the waist and pinned to the floor by officers guarding the road outside
Harry and Meghan joined the monarch, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the central London church as they carry out their last public royal duty before they walk away from the monarchy.
But, unlike last year, Harry and Meghan will be conducted to their seats, rather than waiting for the Queen's arrival and walking through the church with the monarch and key royals as they did in 2019.

Law on Promotion of Official Languages:

It Signals A Brand New Era In Our Bilingualism
-Rt. Hon. Peter Mafany Musonge, President of NCPBM
Being an interview he granted the press on the sidelines of the seminar to impregnate members of the NCPBM with the 24 Dec 2019 law
Why is the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, NCPBM, embarking on a mission to explain the law on official languages promulgated by the Head of State on 24th Dec. 2019?

-
Rt. Hon. Peter Mafany Musonge
-As you know, for a law to be binding, it must be made known i.e. publicized. The intention is to ensure that everyone who is to be governed by it is sufficiently kept abreast of it. It is in this light that after the law on the promotion of official languages was enacted by the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya, in December, 2019, the necessity to explain it has become pressing, especially because of its novelty and extreme importance in our national life. For you information, the law we are talking about is the brainchild of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, in line with one of its missions. It is in this regard that the Commission has received high instructions from the Head of State, under whom the Commission operates, to carry out an intensive and extensive explanation of the law to all segments of the Cameroonian public.

How do you intend to carry out the sensitization?

--We intend to do it in three stages. The first is among ourselves the members of the Commission, who have to internalize every aspect of the spirit and letter of the law, so that everyone of us is on the same page. We did a seminar on that. The second stage is through the media of mass communication to reach a wider spectrum of the Cameroonian population. That is, by using mainstream media and online platforms. We believe that, in this way, we can touch the largest number of Cameroonians and enable them understand the law and its import. So, using your prestigious and popular newspaper is part of that effort. Thirdly, we (members of the Commission) will soon go round the regions to meet the people and directly explain the law to them. We think that with this all-embracing strategy, we will explain the law better, elicit more understanding and convince all stakeholders of its over-riding significance and relevance.

What is your perception of the law?

The law is a landmark in the consolidation of our policy of bilingualism in the country. It intends to enhance the sense of pride which should enthuse us for belonging to a country that is exposed to and indiscriminately uses two dominant languages of some of the most influential, global civilizations. It is a piece of legislation which reinforces our living together in our beloved country that is blessed to have a dual language heritage with multiple advantages. It empowers ordinary citizens in the use of any of the two official languages without being taunted, slighted or discriminated against. It is a good law which opens a brand-new era in the area of official-language usage in our country. And, as such, we call on every Cameroonian to own it and be proud of it.

Some people have picked holes with certain sections of the law. You recall the heated debates which preceded its adoption in parliament.

International Women’s Day:

Protests & Celebrations Mark Events Worldwide
Tensions marked some events, with demonstrators arrested in Kyrgyzstan and a bomb detonated at a ceremony in Cameroon.
People around the world have marked International Women’s Day with calls to end exploitation and increase equality.
Tensions marred some celebrations on Sunday, with police arresting demonstrators at a rally in Kyrgyzstan and separatists detonating a bomb during a ceremony in Cameroon.
No-one was hurt in the attack.
“In many different ways or forms, women are being exploited and taken advantage of,” Arlene Brosas, the representative of a Filipino advocacy group said during a rally that drew hundreds to the area near the presidential palace.
Protesters called for higher pay and job security, and demanded Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte respect women’s rights.
In Pakistan, women rallied in cities across the country despite petitions filed in court seeking to stop them.
The opposition was stirred in part by controversy over a slogan used in last year’s march: “My body, my choice.”
Some conservative groups had threatened to stop this year’s marches by force but Pakistani officials pledged to protect the marchers.
The rallies are notable in a conservative country where women often do not feel safe in public places because of open harassment.
The main Islamic political party, Jamaat-e-Islami, organised its own rallies to counter the march.
