The South West Regional Delegate of Public Contracts, MINMAP, Shey Ebuwir Tobias, has disclosed that the region is on the good footing in the realization of the 2014 Public Investment Projects. He expressed confidence that by the end of the 2014 financial year the region would have hit its target of 100% realization of public investment projects. The delegate was speaking in Mamfe, Manyu Division, during the third co-ordination meeting of officials of the regional delegation of public contracts for the south west that took place recently.
Shey Ebuwir Tobias noted that many contractors were still to understand the new procedures put in place by government in the award and monitoring of public contracts but assured that with the transparency, objectivity and accountability that characterize the procedures, the realization of the projects dotted all over the Region can be guaranteed.
The coordination meeting was aimed to evaluate the activities of the regional delegation, see where they faltered and seek ways and means for a better way forward.
Shey Ebuwir expressed optimism that by December 2014 the SW must have attained a realization rate of 90% in both physical and financial execution of PIB projects. But he said that for this to happen, all actors must put hands on deck.
Presided over by the Senior Divisional Officer for Manyu, Peter Tieh Nde, the meeting brought together the six divisional delegates of public contracts, Chiefs of Brigade, stakeholders, contractors and vote holders. The SDO urged the officials of the public contracts sector to ensure follow-up and control of on- going projects in the field and to make sure that public contracts regulations are respected. “You should only receive projects after making sure that they were well executed and in respect of the contract stipulations,” the SDO stressed, calling on the Regional Delegate of Public Contracts to ensure that the South West attains a realization rate of 100% execution of PIB projects by the end of 2014 financial year. He warned that contracting authorities should not go into conflicts with the tender’s board.
The meeting witnessed presentations from the Regional and Divisional Delegates on the level of contracts execution in their various areas of competence. A technical paper was also presented on the role of other stakeholders in the public contracts chain.
Earlier, the Divisional Delegate of public contracts for Manyu, Mbeng Joseph Tambe, welcomed the personnel for their massive attendance, saying that their presence was an indication that the public contracts sector in the South West Region was healthy.
