Would you prefer your child to go to school or learn a trade?
Minimal education is necessary
Awasum Cornelius
A child should get some minimal education, at least ‘O’ levels before he can decide to learn a trade. A tradesman who is illiterate is a danger to society and himself. If a tradesman has minimal education he can socialize freely and without complex. A tradesman should be able to at least prepare his bills and read and understand contracts before signing them.
School above all
Ashu Godfred
I will prefer sending my child to school rather than make him learn a trade. It is necessary for the child to be educated first and then look for a means of survival later. Education is very necessary and should be the first investment of every parent for their child.
School first
Simon B.
I think it’s better to first send the child to school. He can learn a trade after that. You cannot learn a trade if you know nothing about school. It is normal for the child to learn how to read, write and speak because he needs that to know how to behave with a client. School is really necessary for children.
School offers more opportunity
Angwafor Berry
I prefer sending my child to school so that he can be able to read and write to be able to have a job in future. Those who learn a trade don’t have the opportunities the educated once have.
School is important
Didier Ngodi
I will send my child to school. School is very important. It is true that some people may want to learn a trade; but you need education to master any trade.
School is more important
Honorine E.
I think school is more important than learning a trade. So I would prefer to send my child to school first because it is more import than anything else.
School orientates children’s ideas
Blandine E.
I prefer sending my child to school because it is important in life. It helps orientate the ideas of the child, ie. It enables him/her live well in society and better tackle the problems he may come across. School is not only to get a trade later in life but also aids in growing. It makes the child take part in the civilization of the world.
Learning a trade is more important
Tarkang Patricia
People first thought that children went to school inorder to get white-collar jobs. But I will send my child to learn a trade because professionalism is what counts today in our country. When you learn a trade, you may become self-employed and take care of yourself and your family, unlike when you do the general education. You may even stay at home with degrees in your pocket without a job. So I prefer sending my child to learn a trade.
It will depend on my pocket
Mumah Joshua
My decision will depend on whether I have enough money or not. If I have enough money to send the child to school then he will go to school. Bu if my pocket is not strong enough then I will get him to learn a trade.
Education before a trade
Sylvannus Gwan
I prefer sending my children to school at least to a certain level, even if I don’t have the means to further their education. I would like them to have at least their ‘O’ or ‘A’ levels, because if you send a child to do a trade without any good knowledge, he will not do that trade very well. They say you should get knowledge and understanding to get wisdom. If I don’t have money for a day school, I could manage an evening one.
School is more important
Mua Sampson
I will prefer that my child goes to school before learning a trade because this will enable him to have more opportunities and a better knowledge of what to do later in life. While the child is in school, his potentials can be detected. You don’t impose a trade on a child but you send the child to school to find out what is good for him.
It depends on the family
Njoya Emmanuel
It depends on the family, because education is meant for the rich not for the poor. But the poor should also try to send their children to school. It is good to send your child to school to a certain level. Education is the key.
Education before trade
Caroline Bih
Even if a child does not get a job after school, it is good for him to be educated. I prefer education because to practice a trade, the child needs knowledge from school to read and write.
It depends on his output
Ngong Zong Jude
The decision to either send my child to school or get him to learn a trade will depend on his output in school. If the child’s output in school is good enough then I would encourage him to continue his education to what ever level he wants to attain. But if the child is not good enough at school then I will convince him to learn a trade.
School and trade go together
Amougou Angeline
In my opinion, you cannot separate going to school from learning a trade. The child must first learn how to speak and at least get the most basic degree. Training or learning a trade can follow, only if the child is willing. This will enable a guided aspect to training, which could lead to research in other domains. Therefore, I think the two go together.
To read and write is important
Mofor Guilian
I prefer sending my children to school. They may leave school and not be employed but can at least read and write. Since we no longer depend on the government, when the children leave school, he can then learn a trade and do it better.
I prefer a trade
M. Eveline
I prefer sending my child to learn a trade because school no longer pays in Cameroon. School is for those who have money because nowadays, you have tobuy a job. I would prefer that my child learns a trade.
School prepares you for a trade
Florence Tchouape
I prefer sending my children to school to letting them learn trades on the field because in school, the child will learn all the things concerning more than just what to do in future. He will study the environment in which he is and all other aspects of the job, how to live in society, study the job market, etc. When a child learns only a trade he knows only the trade and nothing else. He does not master how to relate with clients and works in a hazardous manner. School is necessary.
Educate your child first
Elenor Y.
I think you have to educate your child because he/she cannot do a trade without knowing how to read and write. Looking at the situation of today, trade is the best because many have gone to school but end up jobless.
Trade limits the child
Ayamba Vivian
When you go to school, you know both theory and practice. But when you learn but a trade, you limit yourself yourself only to practice. Educated people can feel free anywhere in life.
Education is the key
Ndah Kilian
It’s not a matter of preference but I would rather send my children to school because in this way, they can specialize. The knowledge learnt can enable them to compete in getting a trade. Even if they don’t have a trade after all the studies, knowledge is never useless until the day one dies. Somebody who applies his knowledge well can easily learn a trade and even become self-employed. With education, you have a wide horizon and can easily fit in society while learning a trade can make you limited.
