Limbe Botanic Gardens, Commonwealth Graves sold out!

After the scandalous sale and subsequent occupation of land in the Bonadikombo Water Catchment Area in the Limbe I Municipality, it has been disclosed that parts of the Limbe Botanic Gardens have also been sold out to yet unidentified individuals.
    According to HRH Chief Ekoum, former President of the Fako Chiefs' Conference, the land in question is the stretch that separates the lawn tennis court from the Common Wealth Graves along the Limbe River.
    Chief Ekoum made the disclosure, Tuesday November 4, 2014 during a press conference organised by Hon. Etombi Ikome Gladys, Member of Parliament for the Fako East Constituency.

    The information comes in the wake of complaints of illicit and scandalous sale of lands ceded to villages in Fako division by the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC. There are also reports of illegal sale of government residential areas GRAs in Limbe and Buea, and lands reserved for villages by some unscrupulous government agents in connivance with local chiefs and elite.
    A commission of enquiry created by the ministry of Land Tenure and State Property is yet to make its findings public. A team from the Anti-corruption Commission CONAC that visited the division to investigate on the criminal dispossession of indigenes of their ancestral lands has also not made its findings known.
    The Limbe Botanic Gardens are part of State Property; they are also part of protected forests areas for the preservation of some forest and wildlife species. It is unlikely therefore that the government would condone the illegal sale of these precious property of the Cameroonian people.
