K’ba grand councilors take on Gov’t
Delegate
- SDO castigates ENEO, Camwater over poor
services
By Sirri NTONIFOR TANGWE in Kumba
The SDO for Meme, KoulboutAman David, has
spoken out bitterly against the inefficiency of the public utilities: ENEO and
CAMWATER/CDE, in satisfactorily providing electricity and water respectively.
He was addressing senior councilors of the Kumba City Council who had expressed
dismay both at the poor services provided by ENEO and CAMWATER, and at the
persistent refusal of their divisional managers to honour invitations to attend
council sessions and justify their output. Koulbout stated that since he came
to Kumba in 2010, he has been using only buckets to bathe because of the
frequent unavailability of pipe-borne water in the SDO’s quarters.
Moreover,
he added that he has been spending 18,000 FCFA per night for some days to fuel
his generator because ENEO has forsaken its duty. Indeed, in Kumba, ENEO’s
recent pattern has been one of withholding electricity from denizens for close
to 12 hours on a daily basis without prior notice. In frustration, the SDO
declared that he is more comfortable in his village than in Kumba. Responding
to councilors who pleaded with him to use his office to intervene by summoning
the company executives to order, the SDO explained that while such actions are
out of his jurisdiction, the South-West Governor is sending a written complaint
to the minister in charge.
