Some six Government Technical colleges and
2 vocational and training centers in the North West and South West regions of
Cameroon on December 12, 2015 received some school and working equipment from
the Strategic Humanitarian Services, SHUMAS.
Valued
at some FCFA 49 million, the equipment will salvage the beneficiary schools and
training centers from the deficiency of appropriate training tools especially
in technical and training schools.
The
joy was total and mobilization complete as the teachers in their speeches and
the students in song and dance appreciated SHUMAS and her partners GERED, a
non-governmental organization based in Holland and Building Schools for Africa
based in the UK for providing them with what many termed “a sustainable
Christmas gift”.
“Today,
we celebrate tools and equipment that some of our schools have never seen not
to talk of using since our creation” observed madam Banga Grace, Principal of
Government Technical College Bamendakwe who spoke on behalf of the beneficiary
schools.
The
Divisional Officer of Bamenda III sub Division, Mbonge Peter Itoe just like the
representatives of the Mayor of Bamenda III Council and that of the Regional
Delegate of Secondary Education were unanimous that SHUMAS and her partners
have been veritable allies in Cameroon’s development efforts.
While
thanking SHUMAS for timely steeping in to supplement government’s action in the
area of technical education by providing learning equipment that is usually
always lacking, they cautioned the beneficiary schools to use the equipment
judiciously so as to train the youths who will sail the boat of Cameroon to the
safe shores of emergence by 2035.
On
his part the Director of SHUMAS, MformiNdzerem Stephen observed that in order
to effectively train young engineers and technicians of tomorrow, continuous
practical work is needed and for this to happen, equipment is indispensable
thus the motive of the donation.
“The
schools here represented today are only going to leave this building with
technical equipment to improve on the learning standards of their schools, but
also with the zeal to inspire and train these aspiring engineers and
technicians to produce betters results” he added.
The
schools and training centers it should be noted were selected based on their
level of need of workshop equipment. This was assessed by a team of SHUMAS
staff who went to these schools and centers to carry out feasibility studies.
It
is worth noting that in the domain of education, SHUMAS has constructed a total
of about 800 classrooms with 38 constructed in 2015 alone.
The
development Non Governmental Organization which also has special consultative
status in the United Nations Economic and Social Council in the domain of
health SHUMAS has refurbished and equipped more than 30 Integrated Health
Centers with a total of 46 nurses from poor rural community health centers
sponsored through its Spreading Health Program.
