The Cameroon Cricket Federation,
Fecacricket, on Thursday, 4 August 2016 ended a two-week Summer Holiday
Training Camp in Yaounde with the distribution of jerseys and the award of
certificates and prizes to participants.
The
closing ceremony at the Mervick Bilingual High School play ground here also
witnessed a series of mini cricket matches organized among the participants in
the training camp. The participants were young students and pupils selected
from secondary and primary schools in and around Yaounde.
During
the ten days the young cricketers underwent drilling to build their skills in
different aspects of the cricket game such as batting, bowling, fielding,
wicket-keeping, scoring and umpiring.
“Apart
from keeping the pupils and students busy during this Summer Holiday, the
two-week camp also falls in line with our policy for continuous detection,
training and development of young cricket talents in the country,” said
Solefack James, a Cricket Developer working with the Cameroon Cricket
Federation, who noted that the talents so detected and trained will later join
the existing cricket clubs in the country with the hope of becoming professional
cricketers in the future, why not!
Participants
at the training said they had had a fulfilling time and that the training was
worth their while.
“I
took interest in the cricket game since last year and have been playing it with
friends since then. I have had a very busy time throughout the two weeks here,
and have learned a lot too. My skills in
batting, bowling and fielding have improved a great deal during this training
camp. I also found the lessons on HIV/AIDs interesting and important,” said one
of the participants, ManidemClemence.
The
President of the Cameroon Cricket Federation, Victor AgborNso, who supervised
activities during the two weeks, could not conceal his joy for a successful
outing.
“We
have had a very busy and fulfilling two weeks here. You can see from the
enthusiasm of the youngsters that they are having a great time here. The
ambiance has been the same all throughout the ten days that we have been
together,” Mr. AgborNso enthused as he watched the young cricketers displaying
their talents and the skills they had acquired during the two weeks training.
“I
seize this opportunity to thank our cricket ambassadors in the various schools
for helping us in selecting the young talents that have participated in this
Holiday Camp. I also sincerely hail all those who took time off their busy
schedules to participate in or witness the activities during the two weeks. I
hope that your time was not wasted,” Victor Agbor said as he declared the
Holiday Camp closed.
And
that was not all! The Fecacricket president announced to the young participants
that some of them have been selected to join the clubs that will take part in
the 2016 Joint Domestic Cricket League and Cup of Cameroon Tournament that was
to begin in just a matter of days.
