MP officially handing over generator & other medical items to the health centre chief |
The ceremony to officially hand over the medications witnessed a massive turnout from the people of Munyenge. Dignitaries present included the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Andrew Motanga Monjimba, the Chief of Munyengue, Chief Denis Litowo Metombe III, Fako east alternate parliamentarian, Madam Mboya Mbangeh, Mayor of Bimbia, Isaac Inongo Ndalle, Tiko CPDM sub section President, Eteki Charles amogst others.
In his address to the public, the MP said the inspiration to give aid to the health centre came from his previous visit to the area during which he saw the nurses using of bush lamps to treat patients. “I therefore thought it urgent and expedient to provide them a generator,” hon. Etoke said.
Working in collaboration with the United Action for the Underprivileged Foundation in Mutengene, other items donated to the health centre included plastic chairs, knee immobilizers, stethoscope, disposable and insulin syringes, gloves, ankle supports, to name just a few.
On his part, Chief Denis Litowo Metombe III described the MP’s visit as timely following the scarcity of drugs and other medical equipment in the health centre, a problem he explained arose from the high influx of people from nearby villages to get medical care from the centre. Besides the insufficient drugs and equipment, other problems faced by the health centre are the lack of personnel and poor storage facilities. As such, the people through their chief made an appeal to the authorities to upgrade the health centre to a district hospital with a resident doctor and for Munyenge to be lifted to a 2nd class chiefdom up from its present 3rd class status.
Other appeals to the government included the provision of portable water and electricity, improvement of the road and communication networks etc.
Also, it was appealed that Munyengue which is situated some 27km from Muyuka be made a sub division based on its fast growing population that now stands at about 18,000 people distributed over 50 villages. The chief said Munyenge’s vast land surface and social and economic viability are ingredients that militate for its transformation into a sub-division.
In response, the MP Fritz Etoke promised to channel the requests to the appropriate quarters and to look into those issues that fall within his competence. But he reminded his hearers that all their problems cannot be solved in just 5 years of his first mandate. “But i will do my best to make sure the most pressing problems notably the roads and lack of electricity are given solution in the nearest future”, he promised.
Talking to the press, Chief Metombe III expressed much delight and confidence in the hopes seen through the visit of the honorable, trusting him to channel their plight and worries to the authorities that be, for a better future for his chiefdom, describing the gesture as a step taken to wipe away their tears since Munyenge was lagging behind medically.
