South West Chiefs Conference
“We, the Traditional Rulers of the South West Region meeting in Buea on Friday 26 December 2014 in an Extra-Ordinary session of the Enlarged Central Executive Council of the South West Chiefs Conference;
Mindful of the peace and stability reigning in Cameroon thanks to the sterling and astute leadership qualities of President Paul Biya;
Mindful of the Greater Accomplishments Program of the Head of State in view of a giant leap forward for Cameroon to become an emerging economy by 2035;
Mindful of the commitment of the State to permanently construct the Kumba-Mamfe Road in partnership with development partners;
Mindful of the creation of the Higher Technical Teacher Training College (HTTC) in Kumba as an institution of the University of Buea and the Fisheries Academy at Batoke, Limbe,
Mindful of the commitment of Government to improve on the status and welfare of Traditional Rulers and in particular the timely decision to grant remuneration to Chiefs;
Mindful of the Partnership Agreement between a South Korean Consortium and the Cameroon Government to build a multi-functional quay at ISONGO0IDENAU Sub Division, otherwise known as the Limbe Deep Sea Port;
Mindful of other Structural Projects such as the G-Power Cement Factory, the Giant Fertilizer Plant, the Gas to Power Plant, the PAMOL BAKASSI Extension Project and the CDC Extension Projects within our Region;
Mindful of the choice of Limbe as one of the towns to host the forthcoming African Cup of Nations Competitions in 2016 and 2019;
Considering the resolve and determination of the Head of State to preserve the peace-security and stability of our beloved country Cameroon, notably through his spirited fight against insecurity and terrorist action;
Do hereby
1. Heartily express our profound gratitude to the Head of State President Paul Biya, Commander of our Armed Forces, for his security concerns for our people witnessed in the recent grant/approval of a new Military Unit to be based in Kumba;
2. Thank the Head of State for his recent appointment of our colleagues His Majesty Dr Ekoka Mollindo and HM Justice Nfor Betchem Eyong Eneke as Director Student Affairs at the University of Buea and President of the South West Region Court of Appeal, respectively;
3. Call for the functioning of the “Limbe Maritime and Fisheries Institute” as an integral part of the Department of Animal and Fishery Science of the University of Buea.
4. Salute the launching of construction works on the Kumba-Mamfe Road, the programming of several projects earmarked in the South West Region as part of the recently announced Presidential Emergency Three-year Public Investment package 2014-2017, and do strongly encourage Government to spare no effort for the effective realization of these projects and initiatives, as well as the programming of other major infrastructural projects promised for the Head of State West Region.
5. Hail the courage and astute diplomacy of the Head of State President Paul Biya at the service of regional and international collective security and economic integration initiatives, notably the on-going fight against trans-border insecurity, terrorist activities and actions to secure the release of hostages;
6. Reassure the Head of State of the commitment of the Traditional Rulers of the South West Region to actively collaborate in vigilance and surveillance efforts towards the preservation of peace, security and stability;
7. Reaffirm our unflinching loyalty to State institutions and Republican legality;
8. Renew our unwavering support and confidence in President Paul Biya, while encouraging him to remain steadfast in his leadership style that secures lasting peace, unity, stability and economic progress for Cameroon with a focus on our youths;
9. Reiterate our unshakeable stand for a one, united, indivisible, Cameroonian nation.
10. Wish our illustrious Head of State and family a happy end of year 2014 and a prosperous and excellent New Year 2015 of greater things to come for him, his family and our great Nation, Cameroon.”
