Seven persons have been confirmed dead and over 20 others
severely injured following a truck accident at Nyiel in Massak Sub-Division,
Sanaga Maritime Division in the Littoral Region.
The accident
Sunday 19 January 2020 occurred as a wooden bridge in the area succumbed under
the weight of a truck transporting over 30 persons and bags of maize.
Informed
of the incident, the SDO of Sanaga Maritime, Yvan Cyrille, led a rescue mission
to the area to assist the victims. The administrator revealed that 7 of the
passengers died on the spot while 20 were severely injured.
The
seven corpses were transported to the Pouma district hospital from where they
were transferred to the Mortuary of the Edea regional hospital. The injured
victims are said to be undergoing treatment at the St Andre Catholic Hospital
in Pouma
