Moldova reduces Cameroonians’ trust in Lions

The farewell game that pitted the Indomitable Lions against their Moldova counterparts at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisport Stadium in Yaoundé left many Cameroonians in doubt as a result of the Lions narrow 1-0 victory over the visitors.
    Since the 2-2 draw against Germany, supporters’ confidence for the Lions increased drastically as a result of the show of quality that gave many the euphoric feelings of the Italy 1990 World cup exploits that saw the lions reached the quarter finals.
    Although the match ended with the lions snatching a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Edgar Salli at the 29th minute, lions supporters were however not satisfied with the way their team approached the game.
    The lions put on a show relatively below average as their play style look heavy, slow and also short of the tiki-taka style they demonstrated against Germany.

    With the absence of players like Samuel Eto’o, Eric Maxim-Choupo Moting, Cedric Djeugoue and Stephane Mbia who were all part of the team that faced Germany, the Lions could not dismantle the Moldovan side that is still to make a landmark in football.
    The Moldovans that played “park the Bus” system (playing more defensive) succeeded as they conceded just a goal in the hands of the over-rated Lions.
    One would have expected the Lions to put some pace and mobility in the game and also to instil the tiki taka style they used to hold the Germans in a draw. However, this never happened.
    However, some players were able to give Lions supporters something to smile on. At the attack line that was manned by Achille Webo, Edgar Salli and Benjamin Moukandjo, saw Moukandjo being more dangerous by provoking the Moldovan defenders and forcing them to create faults.
    These made supporters at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisport Stadium in Yaoundé to shout at the top of their voices.
    Webo also made an effort but was denied by woodwork at the 19th minute of play. While it was at the 29th minute that a personal action from the supporters’ man, Moukandjo saw Edgar Salli finding the back of the net to give the lions a narrow win.
    Worthy of note is the fact that two matches in football are never the same. So the lions might still roar in Brazil when the competition kicks-off.
