Former South African president Thabo Mbeki will be in Cameroon from June 5-7, 2014 to partake in the third general conference of the Pan African lawyers’ Union. The announcement was made by the president of the Cameroon Bar Council, Barrister Sama Francis Asanga. President Paul Biya and former Nigerian Head of State Olusegun Obasanjo are expected to receive an award at the conference for the peaceful resolution of the Bakassi conflict.
Besides Mbeki, Barrister Sama has revealed the presence of other dignitaries like the president of the African Development Bank, Donald Kabemka and the president of Transparency International, Huguette Labelle at the conference which is to hold at the Yaounde Conference Centre.
The theme of the conference is illicit financial flows from Africa: Blocking the leaks, management and repatriation of recovered funds. Delegations from 40 bar councils are expected at the event.
The Pan-African lawyers Union was set up by the African Union. Its incumbent president is Cameroon’s former Bar President Barrister Akere Muna, whose mandate will soon be over.
