Biya’s 2035 vision is a pipe dream - Dr. Fomunyoh

The NDI Africa Representative and President of The Fomunyoh Foundation-TFF has said that President Paul Biya’s plan to transform Cameroon into an emerging economy by 2035 is mere wishful thinking or better still, a pipe dream. Dr. Chris Fomunyoh made the declaration recently while receiving students of the second batch of the Executive MBA program of the University of Bamenda.
He justified his assertion with two points namely that President Biya set such a target because he is sure he would not be there in 2035 to render account and be judged; or he is simply aware that his gov’t is incompetent and cannot deliver on time.

Dr. Fomunyoh pushed his argument further by citing countries that are less endowed than Cameroon but that have set shorter emergence targets notably Ivory Coast-2020 and Gabon 2020.
He encouraged the MBA hopeful to inculcate the right attitude  towards managing public affairs, so that with a new leadership mentality things might change for the better for Cameroon.
Quizzed on the Anglophone problem in Cameroon he reminded that "Democracy is not only the rule of the majority but the protection of the minority."
As to rumours that he was aiming for the Presidency, Dr. Chris Fomunyoh sounded rather evasive: "From what I have gone through in life coming from a poor but humble background and being supported by others throughout to being what I am today, it would not be fair to God if I had the opportunity to pay back and I don't."
