CPDM militants and elites of the South West
Region have called on the Head of State, Paul Biya to run in the 2018
presidential elections. A clarion call by the people of the South West Region
to support the candidature of President Paul Biya in the forthcoming
presidential elections was made last Saturday, 5 March 2016 at the Buea
Independence Square.
Going
by the permanent coordinator of CPDM in the South West, Senator Peter Mafany
Musonge, CPDM militants and elite of the South West are happy with their
national chairman and president for the great job he is doing, and “we will
like him to continue doing that job.”
According
to Mola Musonge, CPDM militants, elite and the living forces of the South West
Region are emphatic about their choice.
“It
is a choice that has volcanic proportions, it a choice born out of a volcanic
eruption; it is a choice pregnant with fortune, hope and a promising destiny
for the entire South West Region. Our choice of Paul Biya is an act of Faith,
Love, gratitude and a covenant of its own,” he added.
Drawn
from the six divisions that make up the South West Region, the Clarion call for
President Paul Biya to stand in the next presidential elections in 2018 was
backed by the fact that President Biya is well known in the South West Region
as a believer in human dignity and freedom, an astute crusader and defender of
the principles of national unity, and the diplomacy of peace and security.
The
elites also supported President Biya’s candidature because of his effective
statesmanship and exemplary diplomatic skill that recovered Bakassi from
foreign occupation. They are optimistic therefore that a call for him to stand
in the next elections is a way of saying thank you for the strides he has made
in areas of peace, security, national unity, social stability and territorial
integrity of Cameroon.
“President
Biya in his economic actions and options has always committed himself to
carrying out development projects in the South West Region. Amongst these
strategic projects are; the Completed Mutengene-Kumba Road, the Mamfe-Ekok
Road, the Mamfe-Bamenda Road, the Kumba-Mamfe road under construction, the soon
to be constructed Kumba-Mundemba road, the projected works on the Limbe Deep
Seaport, the Limbe Omnisport Stadium, the transformation of Urban towns of the
South West Region, the preservation of both the CDC and PAMOL as leading
economic powerhouses of the region. Expectedly, access roads like Kumba-Mamfe-Melong,
and Mamfe-Menji-Dschang will undoubtedly benefit from the policies of President
Biya’s regime,” Senator Mafany added.
The
brown folder containing “The South West People’s Call” was dramatically handed
over to the South West Governor Bernard Okalia BIlai for onward transmission to
the Head of State, in front of the over 4000 people that thronged at the
grandstand of the historic Bongo Square in Buea.
According
to CPDM supporters and elite of the South West, no other choice can better represent
their interest and aspirations better than the person they consider as their
national and natural leader, Paul Biya.
Through
several speeches, notably the WCPDM section president of Lebialem- Mrs.
Aminkeng Aka Tekela, the YCPDM section president of MEME I C, Mambanda- Mr.
Jonas Songo Neba, all specified why Paul Biya should be the South West’s
choice.
As
could be expected, some key speakers at the event in Buea somehow helped
confirm the speculations that presidential elections in Cameroon could be
organized even before 2018. In his
address, the CPDM Fako III section president- David Mafany Namange said
“militants of the CPDM are urging the president of the Republic to stand for
the next presidential elections, whenever they are organized”.
To
add to this, Senator Peter Mafany Musonge said “The South West Region has the
authority and the best agreement to erupt as one man to support the president’s
candidature in the forthcoming presidential elections; be it anticipated, on
time, or even postponed. We are always there for him.”
The
enlarged meeting of the vital forces of the South West Region was graced by
cultural dances notably the Ejagam moninkim dance from Manyu, the Edeba dance,
the Ngwane dance of Kupe-Manunguba and the Asamba dance of Lebialem.
Militants
were likewise challenged to massively register on the electoral lists ahead of
the elections. Meanwhile newly elected executives of the party sections and new
organs of the CPDM were urged to get to work soonest.
The
occasion was ornamented by the presence of Senators, Members of Parliament,
Ministers, Government Delegates, Senior Divisional Officers, Divisional
Officers, Mayors, Traditional Rulers, Barristers and a host of others all from
the South West Region.
