CPDM MPs to meet tomorrow at Palais des
Congres
A meeting of CPDM Senators and Members of
National Assembly has been convened for tomorrow Tuesday, 22 March 2016, at the
party secretariat situated at the Yaounde Conference Centre. Called by the SG
of the Central Committee of the CPDM party, Jean Kuete, the agenda of the
meeting was not immediately disclosed, we learnt.
But
a source at the CPDM headquarters told The Median that the meeting has been
convened at the instance of the president of the CPDM party, Paul Biya, who
wants the CPDM MPs to be briefed on his anticipated election agenda and the
inevitable support he needs from them, especially as he would have to change
the constitution to make the very risky project to be possible.
“I
was only informed that we have been convened to meet at the party headquarters
on Tuesday; but i was not told the reason for the meeting. I however, suspect
it has to do with the president’s project to review the constitution and call
anticipated presidential elections,” said a CPDM MP who also confirmed the
convening of the crucial meeting to us.
It
is expected that during the meeting, the CPDM MPs would be given guidelines and
instructions they must respect when the time comes. They would also be reminded
that they have to always toe the party lines at all times and avoid any
divergent gesticulations that may embarrass the president.
Political
pundits also speculate that the president will have to give some interesting
financial concessions to the MPs just in a bid to seduce them to endorse his
plan.
It
should be recalled that upon his return from a short private stay in
Switzerland last Sunday, 13 March 2016, President Biya granted three audiences
at the VIP lounge of the Nsimalen airport and the longest of these audiences
was with the SG of the CPDM party, Jean Kuete, who used the occasion to present
some important documents to his boss.
Jean
Kuete later on Tuesday, 15 March 2016, convened a meeting of CPDM Senators and
Members of Assembly at the party headquarters here. Though the discussions at
the meeting did not filter out, it however emerged from very impeachable
sources that the meeting had to do with the president’s instructions concerning
the election of the members of bureau of the senate and National Assembly. It
was no surprise therefore that Marcel Niat and CavayeYegueiDjibril were
reelected.
But
it is believed that the many documents that Jean Kuete presented to president
Biya at the airport did not only concern the parliament bureaux. Analysts say
the documents also had to do with the possible convening in the near
future of a congress of the CPDM party
to address the issue of Biya’s continuity at the helm of the party and the
state, apart from the other issues which Sultan Ibrahim MbomboNjoya evoked
during the grand rally of CPDM supporters in Bafoussam recently.
But
be it as it may, the outcome of the CPDM Senators and N.A. members will get to
the public domain before long, hopefully.
