Wooden Structure hosting GTHS Bombe Bakundu
The over 300 students of Government Technical High School, GTHS Bombe Bakundu in Mbonge Sub Division of the South West Region on Wednesday 16 March showcased their technical know-how to the public during the 2016 "Open Door Day". The event that took place under the supervision of the South West Regional and Divisional Delegation of Secondary Education was an occasion for the students to display their technical creativity and output.
Despite the complete lack of classrooms and other basic school infrastructures at the school, the students still proved to the public that they can still contribute to the development of society through technical creations.

The Students displayed chairs, beds, electrical appliances, kitchen utensils, dress designs, catering facilities and others to the discernible marvel of the crowds that turned out to witness the occasion.
Welcoming guests on the occasion, the Principal of the school, AghimAbunaw, highlighted the importance of technical Education to society. He said the Open Door Day helps in showcasing what the school can offer to the public.
GTHS Bombe trains students in six specialties in the first cycle and four in the second cycle. It has a staff strength of twenty five permanent and eight part-time teachers. But the principal used the occasion to cry out to government to come to the rescue of the school by providing classrooms, training materials and equipped workshops.
It should be mentioned that since its creation some eleven years ago, the students GTHS Bombe have been using make-shift wooden buildings provided by the PTA as classrooms. The administrative bloc and computer laboratory are hosted in a dilapidated building located some two kilometers away from the school. What passes for the workshop now stands as a death trap to students as it risks collapsing any time. Because of the wooden, makeshift structures the school is referred to in the area as "kalabot" school.
Incidentally, Bombe is the birth place and village of Super-scaled Supreme Court Judge, Lord Justice Benjamin Itoe, who once held several ministerial positions in government and is today Board Chairman of the CDC.
