Kumba Catholic district now fully-fledged diocese



- Mgr. Agapitus Enuyehnyoh Nfon appointed as pioneer Bishop

The Catholic Community of Kumba on 16 March 2016 jumped for joy as their dream of having their own diocese finally came true. The long awaited announcement was made by the Secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon, Mgr. CosmaAmbrosini amidst over 100 catholic priests of the Buea Diocese and the Christian community of the Sacred Heart Parish FiangoKumba.
                According to the letter from His Holiness Pope Francis creating the new diocese of Kumba, Mgr. AgapitusEnuyehnyohNfon was appointed the pioneer Bishop of the new diocese whose territory covers some 11.431 square kilometres stretching from Meme, Ndian and part of Kupe- Muanenguba divisions.

The Apostolic Secretary on behalf of the Apostolic Nuncio extended the gratitude of His Holiness Pope Francis to the entire Christian community of the Diocese of Buea, whose maturity in faith and service to God has allowed the creation of the new Kumba Diocese. He wished the faithful of the new diocese, its Bishop, Priests, Religious men and Women Christ’s grace.
                Prior to his appointment, Mgr. Agapitus was the Auxiliary Bishop of the Bamenda Archdiocese.
                Saying “God’s time is the best” the president of the Catholic Women’s Association, CWA, of Our Lady of Lourdes Division of the Sacred Heart Parish FiangoKumba, MmeAkwanang Julie Galabe, expressed joy and appreciation to His Holiness Pope Francis for the creation of the new Diocese which has been their wish many years ago. And like Oliver twist, she requested for more Catholic institutions to be created in the Diocese.
                Born on 11 February 1964 at Shisong in Kumbo, NW region, Mgr. Agapitus studied at the Minor Seminary "Bishop Rogan College" in SoppoBuea, the St Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Bamenda and at the Vatican University. He was ordained Priest on 22 March 1991. He has held several positions of responsibility in the Church including Parish Priest, Vicar, College Principal, Chaplain, Secretary of the Bishop, diocesan treasurer and Auxiliary Bishop.
                It should be noted that, the Sacred Heart Parish FiangoKumba, is henceforth, the new Cathedral of the Diocese of Kumba.
