Senator MbellaMoki Charles |
The Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT,
donated some 360 balls to selected youth, female and regional league Football
Clubs in the North West Region for the 2016/2017 Football Season.
Senator
MbellaMoki Charles, Vice President of FECAFOOT who represented the FECAFOOT
President handed the balls on April 9th, 2017 at the North West Secretariat of
FECAFOOT, in a ceremony attended amongst others by the President of the North
West Regional League of FECAFOOT, Kaba Christopher, the Secretary General,
members of the General Assembly of NW FECAFOOT and club presidents.
Senator
MbellaMoki Charles while handing over the balls explained that the gesture was
in fulfillment of one of the campaign promises made by the national president
who prior to his election made it clear that he would carry out an annual
outreach program to distribute balls to all football clubs across the country
so as to boost football at the grassroots.
Of
the 360 balls, 18 regional football clubs had 10 balls each, 5 female football
teams received 5 balls each and for Youth football teams, 33 were beneficiaries
as each team also received five balls. However
some football clubs like Rangers of Bafut Youth FC, Nkwen Youth FC and Food
Center Youth FC were present but left without the balls because they had not
procured licenses for their players.
According
to the vice president, “the criteria used in selecting those to benefit was
based on football clubs in possession of licenses. The possession of a license
is a non-negotiable requirement for a football team firstly because it is
recommended by FIFA and secondly if an athlete incurs an accident in the course
of playing, reimbursement can only take place if and only if he or she has a
license” he reiterated.
For teams that did not receive because they
had no license, he said the distribution exercise would serve as a booster for
them to obtain the license.
MbellaMoki
noted that with Football becoming the largest industry in the world, FECAFOOT
president is accompanying the continental body CAF and the international body
FIFA to outline recent innovations in football which includes the encouragement
of youth and female football as well as strengthening these teams.
As
the Vice president, he urged football officials to always provide him with
information that would lead to the development of football stating that he
would always be available for complains and contributions.
He also called on them to work in close
collaboration with the national president in his drive to professionalize
football in Cameroon disclosing that the next plan by the president would be to
dish out financial support to the various clubs.
