The Senior Divisional Officer for Meme,
Chamberlin Ntou’ouNdong, has assured the population of Meme Division that the
tarring of the 60km Kumba-Ekondo-Titi stretch of road will begin in no distant
time. He made the declaration recently following an inspection visit he paid to
Small Ekombe, the locality hosting the equipment site of the company in charge
of the project.
The
60km stretch of road will be constructed to the tune of some FCFA 38 billion by
a Tunisian Company, SOROUBAT-CM, with funds from the Budget d’legenceTriemal
PLANUT.
On
the occasion of the one day inspection visit by the Meme SDO and other
administrative officials of the division, the Head of SOROUBAT-CM, Amin Ben
Hassen took them on a guided tour through the equipment base while edifying the
specificities of the prefect. He also assured the SDO that the project will
kick off in less than two weeks.
The
visibly satisfied Meme SDO expressed optimism about the imminent start of the
project given that the machine pool was impressive. He enjoined the population
to throw their total support and collaboration behind the construction company
in order that the project is realized within the set time frame.
Ntou’ouNdong
assured the population that he will personally see to it that any disputes that
may erupt in the course of the construction work are settled.
On
his part, the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor NgohNkelle,
expressed delight about the imminent construction of the road which he said has
been long awaited by inhabitants of Meme and Ndian Divisions, especially given
the enormous difficulties they encounter on a daily basis travelling between
one division and the other. Nkelle said the road would boost business activity
in Kumba, apart from easing movement of goods and persons across the city.
Contrary
to indiscretions that the road would begin from Kake, it has emerged that the
city of Kumba will equally benefit from the project, as the road will begin at
the T-junction along the Mbonge road.
It
should be noted that the road going through Mbonge road quarters has become so
deplorable that it now threatened to separate the very popular quarter from the
rest of the town.
Already,
SOROUBAT-CM, the company in charge of the project has begun maintenance works
on the road, grading, paving and widening the road in order to make it passable
during the rainy season that has made movement difficult for weeks now.
