AFCON 2019 Buea, Limbe Regional committee Members
Members of the 2019 AFCON sub organizing committee for the SW (Limbe and Buea) have been tasked to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to get the region ready to host the event successfully. The call was made by the head of the SW regional organizing committee, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai last Tuesday October 24, 2017 in Buea, while formally installing the committee members to their various functions.
Governor Okalia Bilai called on the members to play their roles diligently to ensure a successful AFCON come 2019.
“We are in a privilege position because we hosted the 2016 women’s AFCON. So most of the members already know what they have to do. I want to count on their experience to make sure that mistakes that occurred in the women’s edition will not happen again,” Gov. Okalia said, exhorting members to demonstrate a high sense of commitment and duty consciousness in the execution of their various tasks.
“Members should go to the field and prepare their plan of action because it is through the chronogram and plan of action that they will be held accountable. They also must take into account the expectation of the hierarchy to work towards a hitch free event.”
The organizing committee of 2019 AFCON was setup to prepare the grounds for a successful hosting of the event.

“Your appointment to different positions shows a mark of confidence that the hierarchy has on you for a successful 2019 AFCON. The success in our region shall be attributed to our relentless efforts to ensure its success”. SW Governor
Governor Okalia further called on everyone to fully play their various roles to see to it that a successful AFCON is witnessed. “Although the stakes of the 2016 women’s edition was a success, it was not as demanding as the 2019 will be. We cannot afford to rest on our laureates knowing that a race is only won when we have crossed the finishing line and we are still to cross it in terms of preparations”.
The ceremony saw in attendance the Government delegate to the Limbe city council, Andrew Motanga Monjimba, DO for Buea, Kouam Wokam Paul, Buea Mayor Ekema Patrick, traditional rulers and a host of others.
After Cameroon and Limbe in particular successfully hosted the 2016 female AFCON, all hopes are for the country to now prepare the ground for the Lions to defend and retain the trophy they won in Gabon.
Limbe hosted pool B matches for the 2016 women’s AFCON and the town in connection with Buea have been retained to host matches for the 2019 AFCON.
SW in terms of infrastructure has six (6) stadia, one (1) official playing ground being the Limbe Omni sport stadium, five (5) training grounds, alongside accommodation facilities to fit international standards.
