For the second consecutive year, the MTN Group has
rewarded the quality of social projects realized by volunteers of the 21 Days
of Y'ello Care, 2017 edition, in Cameroon.
Douala 19 October 2017 - MTN Cameroon, leading company of
the telecoms sector in Cameroon, announces that, it has won the prize of Best
Subsidiary of the West and Central African region, after the 11th edition of
the benevolent programme dubbed 21 Days of Y'ello Care.
The
accolade was awarded by the MTN Group in recognition of the quality of the
projects initiated and deployed by volunteers of Cameroon, from 1st to 21st
June 2017. During these 21 days of social engagement, MTN Cameroon employees
constructed and equipped a science lab at Government Bilingual High School,
Bobongo-Petit-Paris in Douala. This school is the best in the Littoral region
at the recent classification by the Baccalauréat Board in 2016.
In
addition to the construction of the science lab at Government Bilingual High
School, Bobongo, MTN Cameroon staff realized other projects within the
framework of the 21 Days of Y'ello Care, this year, notably:
- Digitalization
of courses media of the University of Buea
- Collection
of books to equip several school libraries throughout Cameroon
- Digitalization
of educative content for the YelloBook.cm library
Apart
from the employees of MTN Cameroon, other volunteers amongst whom were staff of
partner companies, artists, media professionals and associations, spontaneously
mobilized to achieve these projects.
"These
initiatives have a direct impact on more than 25,000 students and teachers. The
distinction received from the MTN Group confirms the quality of our projects,
but especially calls on us to continue mobilizing for those in need of us,
declared Philisiwe SIBIYA, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon.
21 Days
of Y'ello Care is a voluntary and charity programme initiated by the MTN Group
which each year engages its employees to carry out for 21 days, social actions
for the welfare of communities in the world wherein the MTN Group subsidiaries
operate. Cameroon distinguished itself
in the past by winning the first prize of the entire MTN Group in 2012, 2013
and 2015.
A
subsidiary of the MTN Group, represented in 22 countries, and
telecommunications leader in Africa, MTN Cameroon is a provider of
communication and payment solutions, incorporated in Cameroon since February
2000. MTN is one of the five most significant companies in Cameroon, and was
second biggest tax payer in 2015.
