As Cameroonians go to the polls to elect a new president
on Sunday 7 October, the people of Kupe Muanenguba division in the SW region
have taken a commitment to cast their votes solely for incumbent president Paul
Biya.
Militants of the CPDM in Kupe Muanenguba took the
commitment during two campaign rallies that were held in Bangem and Tombel, on
Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Presided
over by the Minister, Assistant SG of the presidency, Elung Paul Che, who
doubles as the Vice President of the CPDM coordination committee for
Presidential campaigns in Kupe Muanenguba, the meetings brought together
internal and external elite of the ruling CPDM party in Kupe Muanenguba, as
well as grassroots militants and sympathizers of the party.
Notable
among those who braved the odds and attended the rallies were the former
minister of forestry and wildlife, Ngole Philip Ngwese. There were also MPs,
Mayors, the AGMs of IRAD and SODECAO, the technical adviser at the CRTV – Dr.
George Ewane Ngide, Directors among
others.
Addressing
his brethren, Minister Elung Paul called on them to vote for candidate Paul
Biya whom he said was the only candidate with the requisite experience to
handle the problems in Cameroon.
Elung
Paul cautioned CPDM militants to resort to door-to-door and month-to-mouth
campaigns, if only to avoid confrontations in the face of current
socio-political tension in the division.
He
enjoined CPDM militants to avoid provocation during the campaigns and to
respect orders from the administration.
It
should be mentioned that Minister Elung Paul and his delegation, made it to
Bangem and Tombel despite death threats and gunshots by separatist fighters,
who had warned against any campaigns in Kupe Muanenguba division. The
delegation, helped by the military, surmounted obstacles mounted on their way
and got to destination in time to hold the rallies, which were hugely
successful.
Intriguingly,
despite this hard earned success by Minister Elung and other well-intentioned
sons of K/M division, some “feeble minds” quickly went to work and were trading
“lies”, saying the minister’s delegation was attacked on the road by
separatists; the delegation never reached Bangem or Tombel. The Minister has
condemned this with all vehemence.
