With just three days to the 2018 presidential election, CPDM supporters in the SW are leaving nothing to chance as they prepare the grounds for a sweeping victory for their candidate in the region.
A mega
rally holding at the Bongo’s Square in Buea, on Wednesday, 3 October, brought
together party bigwigs and grassroots militants from far and near to drum up
support for candidate Paul Biya. The rally witnessed the presence of a
representative from the CPDM Central Committee, Thomas Tobbo Eyoum.
Welcoming
the delegates, the Mayor of Buea, Patrick Ekema Esunge called on President Biya
to pardon his brothers and sisters who have demonstrated deviant behavior in
the ongoing Anglophone crisis.
“As the biblical father did to his prodigal son, we pray
President Biya to find peace in his heart and forgive our brothers,” Patrick
Ekema prayed, calling on the population to call back their family members in
activist groups in bushes and those who have been internally displaced to come
back and join the family fold.
“We
cannot in any circumstance deny that the separatists and IDPs are our related
to us in one way or the other. It is incumbent on us to take the responsibility
and call them back to our families,” Ekema insisted, thanking the security
forces for creating an atmosphere conducive for the campaigns and for voting to
hold on 7 October.
Admitted
that holding and winning an election in chaotic situations like the one
prevailing in NW and SW is not an easy task, Mayor Ekema enjoined CPDM
militants to put in extra effort, noting that the time left is short.
For his
part, the leader of the SW CPDM Regional Campaign Commission, Peter Mafany
Musonge, noted that “since the launch of CPDM campaigns in the SWR some 11 days
ago, members of all the campaign teams in the region have been on the field
spreading the campaign message of incumbent president Biya.
Buea Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge pleaded for President Biya to forgive detained youths
“Nobody can challenge our candidate because experience counts in this business. With another mandate he will provide even greater opportunities for the people to improve their living conditions, consolidate peace, safeguard national unity and integrity, and accelerate progress towards emergence amongst other benefits,” Musonge boasted, arguing that none of the other candidates has a better plan for Cameroon and the SW region. “Unlike in previous campaigns we have been using more effective campaign methods to reach out to our electorate all over the region this, due to the socio-political upheavals in the region,” Musonge said, emphasizing that President Biya is the most suitable, most reliable and most dependable candidate for the Presidency in Cameroon.
“By the
way, where are they since the campaigns began? They know they have lost the
election in the SW,” he concluded, telling militants that “contributing to
President Biya’s victory is like putting your money in a reliable “njangi”
house that will never fail you.”
He
highlighted various development projects that have been executed in the region,
citing notably the refurbished Molyko and Buea town stadiums, construction of
Limbe ultra-modern stadium and its annexes, tarring of Kumba-Mamfe-Ekok road,
works on the Kumba-Mbonge-Mundemba road, educational institutions, healthcare
facilities amongst others.
On his
part, the Government Delegate of Limbe, Andrew Motanga Monjimba, echoed calls
by the Mayor of Buea for a massive turnout in the region for the presidential
election.
“The SWR
is CPDM and CPDM is the SW. October 7 is a day for us to renew our trust in
President Biya. Let adventurers and novices try their luck somewhere else
because the SWR has already made its choice for president Biya,” Motanga said.
