Cameroon Cup Quarter Finals

Tough challenge for Kumbo Strikers and Njalla Quan FC
By Njodzefe Nestor in Bamenda

The entire sport loving population of Kumbo and lovers of football made in Bui for some time now have been having questioning whether their darling team Kumbo Strikers could ever repeat the history they made in the year 2000 by being the first team west of the Moungo to win the Cameroon Cup.
These doubts were laid to rest October 21, 2014 at the Tobin Municipal stadium where the Kimbo Boys grabbed the Cup of Cameroon quarter-finals ticket by walloping League 2 side Dynamo FC of Douala 2-0 after a suffering a 1-2 defeat in the away leg.
The Northwest Division II side was able to frustrate Dynamo’s quest for a fourth Cup of Cameroon trophy. Sports commentators have been quick to observe that the Kumbo Strikers seem to be drawing inspiration from the 2000 heroics when they took the trophy across the Mungo.

During 2000 season of Cameroon Cup, after exhibiting their professional prowess, the Kimbo team popularly known by then as the people’s team defeated the almighty Cotton sport of Garoua to qualify for the finals of the Cup of Cameroon that year.
However, the team will have an uphill task when they take on league 1 side and two times Cup of Cameroon champs, Panthère of Ndé.
It should be noted that Kumbo Strikers that failed to qualify for the National Interpools tourney, have been able to down League 2 clubs to make it to this level. On the other hand, Panthere have played only Regional league clubs throughout the campaign.
On other matches which were played last week, Southwest Region lone flag bearer, NQSA fell at home to Douala Athletic Club at the Limbe Centenary Stadium but sailed through on a 3-1 aggregate.
NQSA will have a hard nut to crack as they will need to beat Cup of Cameroon five times winners and also current League 1 leaders Coton Sport of Garoua.
The Limbe side which is currently fighting for survival in League 1, might end up witnessing their worst season in the club history if they fail in both the league and cup of Cameroon. NQSA will host the boys from Garoua in the first leg of the game.
Meanwhile, another great battle of the day will pit Apejes against UMS of Loum.
The away legs will take place on October 29, while the return legs will take place on November 2, 2014.
