Address by Dr. Peter Forchu Chesami, National Chairman of the SCNC, on the
occasion of the 53rd Independence Day of Southern Cameroons on 1st October
Fellow Southern Cameroonians,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my warmest pleasure to hail and address every Southern Cameroonian wherever he or she may be.
Today is our 53rd independence day as it was declared by the 15th Session of the United Nations General Assembly that held on the 19th of April 1961.
During the voting of our Independence, France and La Republique du Cameroun did not vote. They did not want us to have our own independence and that is the very reason why La Republique du Cameroun our Eastern neighbours with the connivance of France have confiscated our independence by dismantling our Government, our economic structures such as Marketing Board, West Cameroon Development Agency, Cameroon Bank, Tiko and Victoria deep seaports, our electricity corporation (PowerCam). They have equally seized the lone radio station which we had at Buea. Our planes too were seized, our international airport at Tiko destroyed. Our mobile wing police force was absorbed to render the Southern Cameroons extinct in the world.
After the dismantling of the Southern Cameroons Government and economic structures, La Republique du Cameroun successive Governments were teleguided by France to re-colonize and annex us with impunity.
As if this burden on us is not enough, they fake a union on us without any binding treaty. All memoranda addressed to the Presidency of La Republique du Cameroun by the Southern Cameroons National Council for redress of our status quo have failed.
The Government(s) of La Republique du Cameroun have ever ignored the petitions addressed to them by SCNC. La Republique du Cameroun has reduced our status as a Nation to that of a tribe in Cameroun, from a giant to a dwarf.
Nationalists of Southern Cameroons that have dared to reclaim our status as a Nation are often arrested, tortured and some of our activists beaten to death. This drama acted by the suppressive forces of La Republique du Cameroun now occupying our territory has been going on for over half a century in the watchful eyes of great Nations like the United States of America, Great Britain, Great Nigeria and all the fifty Nations that voted for our independence.
The worst type of apartheid is practiced on our citizens by La Republique du Cameroun with impunity. Our citizens face outrageous discrimination in key posts, key Ministries, promotions, gaining admission into professional schools like ENAM, EMIA, CUSS is reserved uniquely for citizens of La Republique.
Our Nationalists have been victims of regular arrests over the years, detention, torture and some die in prison just because they seek our inalienable right of self autonomy as we were from 1954 to 1971.
When Southern Cameroonians see the plague of injustices and heinous apartheid surrounding the British Southern Cameroons and its citizens unchecked, one tends to wonder why the United Nation should exist.
The United Nations was created to maintain world peace and to check the excesses whereby bigger Nations tend to swallow smaller Nations.
Our Eastern neighbour La Republique du Cameroun has defied the Green Tree Accord, National and International court rulings, in the watchful eyes of the United Nations and international community. Is this anarchy in the world? Must a whole Trusteeship Nation that was handed to Her Majesty’s Government of Great Britain go extinct in the world? Has the United Nations failed in its duty of granting the British Southern Cameroons full independence?
Patriotism: The Southern Cameroons National Council exhorts all Southern Cameroonians to be patriotic and not to relinquish their Nation to La Republique du Cameroun.
Our Fons and Chiefs should refrain from selling our Nation to La Republique du Cameroun because no citizens anywhere in the world have ever sold their Nation.
Southern Cameroonians who are judges should know the laws that govern Nations and protect the rights of other Nations and their citizens.
To say that after the restoration law No. 1984/01 passed in Parliament of La Republique du Cameroun that citizens of the British Southern Cameroons are citizens of La Republique du Cameroun is an expensive joke.
Under the laws of La Republique du Cameroun and with any other country, a foreigner can never become the President of their country. That is why Fru Ndi won the Presidential elections in 1992 and could not be sworn in.
National and International Court rulings have ruled in favour of the British Southern Cameroons. Those who are supposed to execute the court rulings are either cowards, inactive or ignorant of their roles.
Nationalism: Nationalism is not a thing to joke with. Our late National Chairman H.E. Chief Ayamba Ette Otun, Justice Ebong and James Sabum had paid very expensively like Nelson Mandela the price of our freedom. It is very provocative that the militia of La Republique du Cameroun continues to arrest our activists on yearly basis.
For a citizen to denounce his Nationalism is denouncing himself.
Let every Southern Cameroonian stand up for their rights and defend their Nation. Southern Cameroonian judges should not judge any SCNC activists for they are not criminals but Nationalists. On the contrary, those who give orders that our activists and Nationalists should be arrested, detained and tortured are criminals. Those who are recolonizing us and annexing us are criminals.
Southern Cameroonians, do not allow yourselves serving under La Republique du Cameroun to be hypnotized in such a way that looking at your image in a mirror you denounce yourself.
Our Nationalism should be taught in our Schools, Colleges and Universities. Southern Cameroonians are Southern Cameroonians and citizens of La Republique du Cameroun are Camerounians.
Resources
Southern Cameroons is a very rich Nation and La Republique du Cameroun is tapping our resources day and night including Sundays and developing their towns and leaving Southern Cameroons a desert and their citizens destitute.
What is the use of spending huge sums of money educating a child through Primary, College and University who does not know his rights not to talk of knowing his country?
No Nation can take good care of citizens of another Nation than its own citizens. That is why in the course of recruiting 25.000 workers not up to 500 Southern Cameroonians were recruited.
Some major achievements of the SCNC
1) Admission of SCNC as a member country of Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO).
2) The West African Court recognizes Southern Cameroons as a Nation in the case Southern Cameroons versus La Republique du Cameroun.
3) The Federal High Court Abuja Nigeria recognizes the Southern Cameroons as a Nation in the case Southern Cameroons versus the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
4) The Green Tree Accord signed between Koffi Annan and President Paul Biya of La Republique du Cameroun.
5) The Corridor Road Enugu – Bamenda linking the Southern Cameroons to west Africa ECOWA.
6) The handing of two separate maps one of Southern Cameroons, one of La Republique du Cameroun to President Paul Biya of La Republique du Cameroun by UN.
7) High Court Bamenda judgment No. HCB28/92
Message
Courage brothers! Do not stumble
Though thy path be dark as night
There is a star to guide the humble
Trust in God and do the right.
Let the road be rough and dreary
And its end far out of sight
Foot it bravely: strong or weary
Trust in God and do the right.
The identity of a man
The identity of a man
starts from his names,
his birth place, his parents, his
village, his dialect, his structure,
his town, and his Nation.
What puzzles me is that many Southern Cameroonians do not know their identity or that many have forgotten their own identity and have taken to foreign identity.
Our Publications
La Republique du Cameroun has already corrupted our own brothers (journalists) never to publish anything about the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC). This is because it does not want Southern Cameroonians to know about their inalienable right of self determination.
We had walked freely without any perturbation from the Eastern House of Assembly in the Eastern Region of the Federation of Nigeria, what is holding us spell bound to La Republique du Cameroun which is practicing the worst apartheid on earth on our citizens?
Take the Bull by the horns: Southern Cameroonians in the diaspora: USA, Britain, France, should make Martin Luther King’s kind of rallies and demonstrations before the United Nations and for all those Nations mentioned above to enable us restore our independence and sovereignty under the universe. Procrastination is the thief of time. Southern Cameroons like other UN Trust Territories was born to live under the universe and we have that inalienable right of existence as a people of distinct culture and identity and we must live as a Nation and paddle our own affairs.
Southern Cameroonians at home and abroad should send ripples round the world of our website www.thebritishsoutherncameroons.org
Many Southern Cameroonians find themselves out in the diaspora because they were uneasy at home under the burdensome yoke of our oppressors (La Republique du Cameroun). As they are comfortable out there, they must think of home and their Nation.
We cannot make the Southern Cameroons identities and passports not to talk of launching them when our Nation is yet under the tight grip of the octopus. We must cut all the tentacles that hook us to the octopus. It is of course a Herculean task that must be accomplished.
La Republique du Cameroun our re-colonizers have bought the consciences of our journalists not to be publishing any living truths, that is why we must publicize our website to the world let the International Community know the truth about our Nation and our struggle to restore our independence and sovereignty.
The Arrest of our Activists and Nationals
Some of our activists in the names of Mr. Andrew Foukum the Victoria County Chairman and Evaristus Ajeguding were appearing in the Muyuka Magistrate Court to answer a charge against them which is still to be framed were single out of other activists who were present in court and were re-arrested at the approach of 1st October 2014, our independence day at Ekona. What a hell!
Our late National Chairman, His Excellency Ayamba Ette Otun, was a brave and great charismatic leader who feared God. Despite the odds surrounding the removal of his corpse from the Mamfe mortuary mounted by the militia of La Republique du Cameroun, he was buried as a Statesman, with Southern Cameroons colours. Like the English Man Nelson, he said “Southern Cameroons expect everyone to do his duty, for I have done mine”.
The Almighty God, the creator of people and Nations will never forget his people and Nation.
Those who are betraying the Southern Cameroons course activists and Nationalists will pay very dearly someday.
For, there is an omnipotent eye, watching day and night all those who conceive evil arrest, detain and torture Southern Cameroonians.
Southern Cameroonians are called upon to pray and fast for our freedom to come soon. It will surely come some day when we least expect – watch out!
Our oppressors, our re-colonizers and annexationists defy even their own laws and court rulings. They say there is no God and there is no justice. When God will act to our favour, they will be ashamed.
The Southern Cameroons National Council wishes all Southern Cameroonians at home and in the diaspora a very joyous independence day.
Make merriment with fellow citizens, close your shops, go to church and after church services, stay indoors.
In God alone we trust.
In God alone be the highest glory.
Our Lord God, we count on your marvels, bless and save us your people.
Done in Buea, this day 1st of October 2014.
Signed:
Dr. Peter Forchu Chesami
