The minister of communication has appointed 9 members to revive the activities of the once moribund commission in charge of the issuance of press cards to recognized journalists and press workers.
According to the decision signed on 18 May 2015, the 9 members were picked from different administrations and civil societies that have a stake in the functioning of pressmen.
The appointed members include:
Mabou Mabou – Tech. Adviser Mincom
Jean Irénée Yves Assala – MINADT
Benoit Placide Mevoua – MINJUSTICE
pierre Essama Essomba – Journalist (Cameroon Tribune)
Tabe Enonchong – Journalist (CRTV)
Kini Nsom – Journalist (The Post)
Zachee Nzohngandembou – Publisher (Eden Media Group)
Ibrahim Cheriff – Journalist (CRTV)
Josephine Abomo – Journalist
Created by prime ministerial decree in December 2002, the Press Card commission has as objection to cleanse the media sector in Cameroon.
According to the PMs decree, holders of the press card or an accreditation letter have access to, in respect of the laws in force and the necessity to maintain peace and order, sources of information and generally, to all places where he is called up to exercise his duties.
The minister of communication is expected to appoint the president of the commission in the days ahead. The commission will immediately go to work upon appointment of the president. Press cards are valid for a period of 2 years renewable.
