Mouelle
described the Government Delegate as the “Enfant Cherie” of President Paul
Biya. “The festival has rendered Limbe populations more united and its
organization is contributing in no small measure to promoting the development
of arts and culture in the country,” Minister Narcisse Kombi underscored.
The
Minister was later presented with special and symbolic gift by the president of
the Traditional Rulers of Limbe, Chief Molive Molungu Otto, on behalf of the
Limbe Chiefs, for his efforts directed at making the festival a successful
national event.
The
Government Delegate was equally given a special prize from the population of
the Limbe municipality for the wonderful initiative of organising the festival
which is already three years old.
Also
in attendance during the official closing ceremony were the personal
representative of the Governor of the South West Region, the Secretary General
at the Governor’s office, Clement Fon
Ndikum, Fako SDO Zang III, Government Delegate Limbe City Council and
Festac vision bearer Andrew Motanga Monjimba, Mayors of the Limbe 1,2 and 3
Councils, the General Manager of CDC Franklin Njie Ngoni, the MP for Fako East
Hon. Gladys Etombi Ikome, Traditional rulers of Limbe headed by their president
Otto Molungu among others.
Wovia And Mokunda villages steal the
show
The
famous and traditional canoe race which is typical of the people from the
coastal parts of Cameroon also constituted the sporting activities of the Limbe
FESTAC. This year’s canoe race saw the participation of four villages notably
Mondonli, Batoke, Wovia and Bimbia. After doing the 12 nautical miles Wovia
padelled more than those the other villages and emerged first. It was the third
consecutive time that Wovia village is winning the race, meaning they have won
all the editions of the Festac canoe since its inception.
Wovia
Village received the sum of FCFA 700,000, the second winners Batoke village
went home with FCFA 500,000 while the third team Bimbia received FCFA 300,000.
Mokunda
Village emerged victorious in the Tug of War competition after beating a team
constituted by Wovia and Batoke. They went home with FCFA 100,000 while the
runners up went home with FCFA 50,000.
In
traditional wrestling Mokunda village still proved tougher than the fighters
from Batoke and Bimbia. Mokunda got a cash prize of FCFA 100,000 while the
second and third winners each received FCFA 50.000. \
NW Dominates FESTAC Njalla Quan Marathon
The
Limbe FESTAC Njalla Quan International Marathon that took place over the
weekend from Idenau to Limbe Down Beach, saw a total dominance of athletes from
the North West Region in all the categories of the race.
The
first three winners in both the male and female categories went home with the
colossal sum of FCFA 1.5 million, 1million and 500,000 plus trophies
respectively. The 4th and 5th athletes in both categories were given FCFA
100,000 and 75,000, while the 6th -10th winners received FCFA 50,000 each as
consolatory prizes. It should be noted that the 6th -10th winners in the female
category all came from the North West Region.
In
the senior male category of the race, Eric Mbatcha from the North West Region
was the first athlete. He was closely followed by Abbo Youssouf from the Centre
Region and Oumarou Mohammadou from the North West Region in third place.
In
the female category, Lizette Ngalim, Carine Tatah and Prisca Tifuh all from the
North West came first, second and third respectively.
In
the veteran category, the winners in both male and female categories received
the following cash prizes, the first winners took the sum of FCFA 250,000,
second winners went home with FCFA 100,000 while the third winners were given
FCFA 50,000 respectively.
