The University of Buea has on Saturday 29 October 2016 matriculated its 24th batch of students for the 2016/2017 academic year with more girls matriculating than boys.                                    According to the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University, Dr. NalovaLyonga (reader), UB admitted some 7766 new students this year as opposed to 5781 students last year. 4011 of the new students are girls, as against 3645 boys.
Addressing the freshers, the VC hailed them for their meritorious admission into UB, also fondly called “the place to be”.  She urged them to be of good behavior, dress properly both on and off campus and eschew rumor mongering, cheating and impersonation which are common ills in the university milieu.
She called on the majority female students to keep their beauty and dignity and to be committed to their studies.
On his part, the guest speaker, the Right Rev Dr. Nyansako-ni-Nku, moderator emeritus of the PCC called on the students to take their studies seriously and shun tribalism on campus. Other pastors who also preached at the event, urged the students to be morally upright.

Brandishing UB as truly the place to be, the VC recalled that UB’s College of Technology (COT) emerged the overall first at the just ended Student Forum organized in Douala. The Department of Agriculture came second in their domain, while the medical school emerged 1st in the Clinical Exam scoring 100%. UB won a total 16 medals in the competition, she said.
A minute of silence was observed for those who lost their lives in the Eseka train crash few weeks ago.
The matriculation ceremony was witnessed by the Governor of the SWR, the DO of Buea, the Registrar of UB, Prof Roland NdipNdip, lecturers, students and well-wishers.
