The National Bureau of the College Bilingue
Alumni Association (COBAA) has donated science laboratory equipment to their
alma mater, Government Bilingual Practicing High School (LBA) Yaoundé. The
ceremony to hand over the equipment took place on 28 October 2016 in the campus
of LBA in the quartier lac here.
The
materials worth over 1.5 million cfa francs included microscopes, preparatory
kits, accessory suppliers, two way viewers, magnifiers, folding Giants,
lab-aids, neo SCI, extreme precision spirit thermometers, magnifying glasses,
shower timers, foldable magnifiers, lab coats, fishers, laboratory aprons,
white laboratory threads, measure ups, digital storage oscilloscope model,
tests tubes, petri dishes and lots more.
Addressing
the students and officials of the school in the presence of the representative
of the Minister of Secondary Education and fellow alumni, Dr. Charles Alobwele,
technical adviser in the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) who is also
an alumnus of the school, thanked the class of 1982 for making it possible for
the materials to be mobilized and transported to the school campus. He said by
coming back to donate materials to the school the ex-students were
acknowledging the contribution that the school made in their lives.
Recalling
the late Dr. Bernard NSOKIKA FONLON who in formulating the policy of
bilingualism in the 1960s said: “our target is to have every child that passes
through our educational system to be able to speak and write English and French,
and produce works of arts and science of the highest merit”, Dr. Alobwede noted
that LBA has produced some of the finest brains working in Cameroon
administration today including the likes of Professor Paul Ghogomo MINGO,
(DICAB of the PM’s Office), Former MINFOF Justice EGBE Hillman, Barrister AKERE
Muna, GHOGOMU Denis, Professor Jahnnie FONYAM and Engineer NDUMU Vincent just
to name a few.
Receiving
the equipment, the principal of LBA, Mrs. Ayuketah Mary thanked the members of
COBAA noting that the donation was very timely as it will go a long way to
improve on practical lessons and the teaching of science. Promising to use and
preserve the materials jealously, the principal noted that the donation has
been made at a time when the government is working to promote the study of
science and technology in schools.
The
Yaoundé chapter President of College Bilingue Alumni Association, Mr. Charles
Tanju expressed joy that the ex-students are today more united than ever before
and ready to support the progress of the school.
