Telecoms regulation:

MTN, others sanctioned for non-compliance
The Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) last week sanctioned MTN Cameroon and other operators in the sector for alleged non-compliance with Spectrum and subscriber’s registration regulations.
According to the sanction, MTN is expected to pay some 3.3 billion to the state for the default.
MTN in a release on 1st December took note of the sanction and said the telecoms provider is engaging with the Regulator on the matter.
MTN however “continues to educate its subscribers on the necessity of registering their Sims on its network to protect themselves and ensure full compliance with subscriber registration regulations,” the release stated.

It added that “MTN’s priority is, and remains the provision of simple, accessible, innovative and affordable communication solutions to its customers to make their lives a whole lot brighter.”
A subsidiary of the MTN Group, a leading emerging market operator connecting subscribers in 22 countries in Africa and the Middle East, MTN Cameroon provides communication and payment solutions. It is present in Cameroon since February 2000.
MTN is also one of the six most significant companies in Cameroon.
