How are the mighty fallen? “Bad Girl” Ama
Tutu Muna
is now paying the high price for
disrespecting her own
elder brother and boss, Prime Minister Philemon
Yang |
Ama Tutu Muna, former Arts and Culture
Minister was booed and jeered by musicians as she alighted from her car, in
front of the ministry to take part in the passing over ceremony on Monday last
week. The musicians chanted songs in celebration of AmaMuna’s fall from grace
following her sacking from the government in the Friday 2 October 2015 cabinet
reshuffle.
The
musicians demonstrated a sense of satisfaction with the sacking of Ama Tutu
Muna as minister of Arts and Culture. They booed and jeered at the minister as
she walked into the ministry where the Prime Minister Philemon Yang had to
install the new MINAC, Prof. NarcisseMoulle Kombi.
As
if they had pre-planned to humiliate the former minister, the artists converged
on the premises of the ministry with drums and other musical instruments at
about 11:30am. As soon as the minister showed up at the ministry, they all
started singing the popular freedom song by legendary artiste, Anne Marie Nzie,
titled ‘Liberte’. They played the instruments and booed at AmaMuna, singing
“freedom, freedom, thank you God almighty we are free at last”. AmaMuna,
however, mustard courage, alighted from her car and thrust herself through the
crowd to the ceremonial hall.
The
artists condemned her for the conflicts and disorder that reigned in the
management of authors’ royalties, particularly her disrespect of prime
ministerial orders. Prince YerimaAfoakom said for instance that she had dared
too much and went overboard.
Atango
de Manajama hailed the president for putting an end to the suffering of
musicians by sacking AmaMuna.
Reggae
artist, Silva, said it was important that one of the parties in the conflict be
kicked out of government for order to return in the management of the countries
music industry.
Since
taking over the ministry, AmaMuna made it a policy to engage in power-tussles
with her collaborators and even her boss the Prime Minister. She was on many
occasions reported to have openly insulted or shouted on senior staffers of her
ministry including the SG. But she put the final nail on her coffin when she
refused to execute the instructions of her boss the Prime Minister.
It
should be recalled that AmaMuna had also disregarded a Supreme Court decision
reinstating the licence of the Cameroon Music Corporation, CMC that she had
withdrawn. She went ahead to create SOCAM which was later dissolved in 2014 by
the prime minister.
AmaMuna
had equally engaged in a battle with the Prime Minister over the management of
artists royalties. When the PM created an ad hoc committee to restore normalcy
in the music sector, Ama rallied some artists in her native Mbengwi to form the
Civil Society Music Corporation of Cameroon, SOCACIM; an entity which was again
dissolved by the PM.
