A new forest management plan for Central Africa has been launched by the Conservation and Sustainable Management of forest Ecosystems in Central Africa COMIFAC. The launching took place during a round table in Yaounde on 5 May 2016.
COMIFAC officials said it was a revised edition of a convergence plan that was validated by the extraordinary council of ministers of CEMAC in July 2014 in Brazzaville Congo.
Accordingly, forest experts said the old plan lacked financial support, weak appropriation, lack of tools, weak communication strategies among others.
It was against this background that Cameroon engaged in another forest conservation plan, the secretary of COMIFAC said at the launch.
The new convergence plan has been structured in the following approach, with innovative intervention priorities, new forestry harmonization environment and emphasis on the fight against climate change.   CHANGE and desertification conservation and the use of durable diversity biology, socio economic development and participation of multi- actors and consistent finances AND 3 FOCUSED Transversal formation and capacity reinforcement, Development research, communication, sensitization, information and education

“The objective of this meeting is to ensure the conservation and normalization of our forests”, said Mme Etieth Victoire, national coordinator of COMIFAC, who insisted that if Something is not done some species of nature will disappear.
In order to conserve our forest COMIFAC has presented mechanisms to be followed in the new plan of convergence, proposed new orientations and operational strategies and also emphasized on the responsibilities of national actors for the buildup of the convergence plan.
