The First Lady Chantal BIYA has expressed
thanks to her husband President Paul BIYA, on behalf of all the women and
children of Cameroon, for the Hospital Centre for Endoscopic Surgery and Human
Reproductive Research and Application.
She says the hospital centre will help families with child-bearing
problems and especially women with various forms of gynaecological problems.
She
was speaking while inaugurating the hospital complex in Ngousso on Friday 6 May
2016.
Mrs.
Chantal Biya prayed the medical personnel of the hospital to be of service to
the public so as to put a smile on the faces of sterile couples.
The
ceremony was attended by heads of diplomatic representations in Cameroon,
government ministers, senior state officials, health personnel and a large
population of curious on-lookers.
Speakers
earlier, the Government Delegate to the Yaounde City Council Gilbert NTSIMI
EVOUNA, welcomed guests at the occasion and thanked government for the hospital
which he described as an architectural jewel that has added beauty to the
capital city.
Presenting
the Hospital Centre to the public, the General Manager of the institution, Dr.
Jean Marie KASIA, said the three-storey building built on a surface of
7300sq.m. has an administrative unit, hospitalization facilities, labour and
delivery rooms, echography unit, laboratories, blood bank, amphi-theatre for
teaching, family planning unit, communication and audio-visual hall among
others. All these sections are equipped with ultra-modern gadgets for
endoscopic surgery, in vitro fertilization, and gyneacological and plastic
surgery, he said, noting that with a staff strength of 300 workers including
medics, para-medics and administrative personnel, the centre stands tall as one
of the best in Africa.
For
his part, the Minister of Public Health Andre MAMA FOUDA was full of gratitude
to the First Lady for all the projects she has carried out in the country in
favour of women and children. He also thanked the Head of State for his
constant and firm commitment to the health needs of Cameroonians. Mama Fouda
revealed that other reference hospitals for mother and child care would be
built in the towns of Bafoussam, Ebolowa and Garoua.
Created
by presidential decree in October 2011, the hospital centre is a public and
administrative institution with financial autonomy.
