87 ‘come we stay’ marriages legalized

Some 87 in Tiko couples have become husband and wife after their marriages were solemnized en-masse, on Sunday, 15 May 2016. The ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Tiko Council was part of activities to commemorate the international day of the family. 
                Organized by the sub-divisional delegation of Women’s Empowerment and the Family Tiko, the ceremony was presided over by the assistant DO of Tiko Subdivision, Mrs. Mama Barbara. It was witnessed by the Mayor of the Tiko Council, HRH Chief Moukondo Daniel Ngande, the Sub Divisional Delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Mr Sone John Mesumbe, the 1st, 2nd and 4th deputy Mayors of Tiko Council, Mayors Elundu Joseph, Tongan Tita Blessed and  Tantang Moses respectively. 

                In his welcome address on the occasion, the MINPROFF Delegate emphasized on the theme “Families: Healthy life and Sustainable future”, saying the family and its different values have a very important role to play for the evolution and development of society.
                On her part, the Assistant DO for Tiko, Mme Mama Barbara expressed the need for commitment, communication, patience and perseverance for a sustainable future in marriage. She called on the 87 couples to be ambassadors of legal marriages by playing an active role in eradicating cohabitation or what is commonly known as “come we stay”.
                It is worth mentioning that activities programmed to mark the commemoration of the twin occasion  included a seminar with the Universal Peace Federation, UPF Southwest, counseling by the Mayor with the couples and signing of their marriage certificates on Friday May 13 2016.
Speaking during the counseling, Mayor Moukondo applauded the strong desire of the couples to enter matrimony and enjoined them to be persevering in marriage life because all will not be a bird of roses.
                Educative talks on health issues and legal advice were also part of the Legalisation ceremony as the couples learnt about desertion, bigamy, children’s legitimacy and others.
                On behalf of the 87 couples Mr Njoh Joseph expressed immense joy and satisfaction to the administration via the Sub Divisional delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family and Tiko Council for the dream come true.
