Over 30 Livestock, Fisheries and Animal
Husbandry farmers in Nkum Division in the North West Region who exercised
dedication, professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of their activities
have received varied prizes from Nkum Council.
In
a short but significant ceremony at the Nkum Council Chambers, on Thursday, June
16, the farmers bagged home prizes offered by Nkum Council aimed at boasting
Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry activities in Nkum. The award
categories included, cattle rearing, pig, poultry and fish farming.
In
an address during the ceremony, the Mayor of Nkum Council, SuilaAruna revealed
that the prizes were made possible thanks to some micro credits from the
Cameroon government.
He said the committee chosen to conduct the exercise was free and
fair and constituted of the second deputy mayor of Nkum, the Nkum Chief of Post
of the sub delegation of Livestock,
Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, Ardos and some chiefs.
He
encouraged the farmers do more to win more prizes in upcoming editions
regretting that many of the farmers could not be included because of the little
means.
The
Nkum Chief of Post of the sub delegation of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal
Husbandry thanked Nkum Council especially the Mayor SuilaAruna for coming up
with such an initiative.
He
also cautioned cattle breeders within Nkum sub division who have been evading
taxes to regularize the situations so that when such initiatives come up they
will equally benefit while encouraging the farmers to report the evaders to the
administration.
The
Chief of Post also encouraged cattle farmers to improve on the pastures that
their cattle is feeding on so as to limit transhumance which has been limited
because of lack of unfarmed land.
Speaking
to the Median after the award ceremony, AlhajiOusman who won the first prize in
the Fish farming category, just like Festus Bandin who won in the Pig farming
category thanked Nkum council for the initiative. They were unanimous that
gesture will be improve on their various activities.
