The Minister of Arts and Culture, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has urged culture enthusiasts to use the Limbe Festival of Arts and Culture as an avenue to uphold the peace and unity in Cameroon. He was speaking in Limbe, on Saturday 7 April, as he opened the fifth edition of the Limbe Arts and Culture Festival, FESTAC, at the Limbe community field.
According to the Minister, peace is vital for our leaving together and development as a nation.
“We should maintain peace so that we can all leave in peace. Limbe FESTAC is sending a message of peace, unity and national integration and it is a celebration of leaving together in this beautiful city. Peace is very precious to our country and our cultural diversity is very important. You cannot promote culture without peace.”
The Minister addressed words of praise and encouragement to the vision bearer, the government delegate to the Limbe City council, Andrew Motanga Monjimba, for the wonderful initiative that promotes peace, multiculturalism, security and living together.
“Limbe has the potential to become a one of the choicest tourist destination in the country, but it requires the involvement of all to make this happen,” Mouelle Kombi said, assuring organizers of the FESTAC of the readiness of MINAC to collaborate and support them.

The thousands that thronged at the Community field to witness the event were treated to a spell-binding showcase of handicrafts, dances and sketches depicting the cultures of the different tribes in Cameroon and some neighbouring countries including Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Togo, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Reminiscences of the historic slave trade that took place on the coast of Bimbia, Limbe were also staged.
During the one week event, culture lovers will be thrilled with various arts exhibitions, canoe race, musical concerts and fashion parades.
Also speaking at the opening ceremony, the government delegate to the Limbe City Council, Ekoka Moto Andrew Motanga Monjimba said Limbe FESTAC is a melting pot of the diverse cultures in Cameroon and Africa, as well as an avenue to promote Cameroon’s multiculturalism and national integration.
Motanga said celebrating 160 years of the founding of Victoria (Limbe) is an important milestone in the history of the Ocean City. He saluted all those who have contributed in making Limbe what is today.
The opening ceremony also saw the unveiling of the exhibition village and the laying of the foundation stone for the 160th Anniversary Monument.
Saturday’s ceremony was preceded by the Miss Victoria FESTAC 2018 beauty contest and a round table conference on the founding of Victoria
The government delegate expressed gratitude to the head of state for bestowing his trust on Fako indigenes especially with the recent appointment of Dr. Pauline Egbe Nalova Lyonga to the position of Minister of Secondary Education.
He thanked the population of Limbe for refusing to fall prey to the antics of merchants of illusion - the Ambazonia separatists.
The weeklong activities will be animated by renowned musicians like Ben Decca, Ekambi Brilliant, Coco Argente, Locko, Blaise B and the Fako crowd-puller Tata Kingue.
