Bakundu Chiefs Bury the Hatchet, Pick HRH Rudolf Itoe as
flag-bearer

Meme Chiefs now have a new executive to run their affairs |
The long standing internal wrangling that gripped
traditional rulers of the 36 Bakundu villages in Meme division has apparently
been laid to rest following the election of a new executive of Meme Chiefs
Conference to be headed by HRH Chief Rudolf Itoe of Bombe Bakundu village.
The
long-drawn in-fighting stalled the transfer of the presidency of Meme Chiefs
Conference from the Bafaws to the Bakundus.
The
mantle of leadership was finally handed to the Bakundu chiefs in Kumba after a
meeting grouping them and chiefs across the Division with the Meme SDO to
discuss the repercussions of the Anglophone crisis.
We
gathered that the chiefs used the opportunity grouping many of them in Kumba to
designate a new executive body to handle their affairs in the Division since
the reign of the Bafaws was already over.
The
chiefs said they could not allow the golden opportunity of their meeting with
the SDO to slip through their hands; they had to do everything to designate a
new executive.
The
constitution of the Meme Chiefs conference makes for a rotator presidency with
each of the three major tribes in the Division to hold the position for two
years.
It
should be recalled that the last Meme Chiefs’ Conference was held in March
2014. During that conference Nfon V. E Mukete was elected as the President of
the Chiefs’ Conference. The Nfon Mukete who inherited the presidency from a
Mbonge Chief was supposed to hand over to a Bakundu Colleague at the end of his
two-year mandate. But owing to the wrangling and in-fighting among the Bakundu
chiefs, he was forced to continue as president, until recently.
The new
executive has Chief Motase Ngoh David of Mbakwa Supe as vice president, Chief
Eseme Mbonji of Nganjo Titi as SG and Chief Motanga Federick of Foe Bakundu as
ASG.
Other
executive members include Chief Ngoh of Malende as Treasurer, Chief Njasomo
Martin as financial secretary, Chief Zinda Andreas as publicity secretary,
Chief Eseme Elis as social secretary while chiefs Akama and Butame are
auditors.
Meanwhile,
Senator Nfon VE Mukete, Chief Dr. Ndome, Chiefs Mokambe Daniel and Chief Ndoh
Oscar Obase were picked as wise men. Chiefs Epie and Nawa Ngoh are advisers.
