Sarkozy investigated for corruption

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy is being investigated for alleged influence peddling and corruption. The official investigation was launched on 2nd July 2014 after he had been questioned by the Paris judicial police for 15 hours.

    Sarkozy is alleged to have received illegal funding for the campaign that sow him elated as French president. The former Libyan leader late Col. Muammar Khadaffi said that he had donated 20 million dollars to Sarkozy prior to his election; which could be violation of French law. Sarkozy is also suspected of offering the post of chief prosecutor to Gilbert Albert in exchange for information the on investigation of ill campaign funding.
    Sarkozy’s co accused include his lawyer Thierry Herzog and chief prosecutor Gilbert Albert. If found guilty he could be jailed for up to 10 years.
