K-Town University kicks-off at defunct PWD
- Other lecture halls at Sofati and GTS Buea Road
The presidential decree of March 7, 2014 creating a Higher Technical Teachers Training College in Kumba sounded illusive for majority of the people of the South West and Meme Division. But after visiting the selected sites last Saturday, July 5, the Minister of Higher Education Jacques Fame Ndongo was enchanted to announce that HTTTC Kumba will go operational as from October 2014

Minister Fame Ndongo satisfied with available structures
The Minister of Higher Education, Professor Fame Ndongo has said that all is set for the smooth take-off of the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC Kumba, in October this year. Created by presidential decree on 7th March 2014, the administrative offices of the institution would be lodged at the Kumba Banquet hall and the defunct PWD at Buea road K’ba.
Fame Ndongo was speaking on Saturday 5th July at the Kumba City Council following a working session he held with some stakeholders of the institution. The forum was an opportunity for the minister to get abreast of the state of readiness of the selected sites for the school.
Discernbly satisfied with what he saw and heard Fame Ndongo said the school could take-off in October.
The sites to host the institution include the defunct PWD,Government Technical School GTS Kumba, Sofati, GTHS Kumba, Cameroon College of Arts and Science (C.C.A.S) Kumba and others.
Fame Ndongo commended the efforts of all who have made it possible for the school to go operational next academic year.

He noted that the Pioneer Provost of the institution, Prof. Joyce Endeley, and the heads of the 14 departments have all been appointed and this was glaring proof that the school would open its doors next October.
With the Entrance Exam into the school launched, Fame Ndongo urged parents and guardians not to hesitate sending young Cameroonians who meet the requirements of the institution.
He added that Kumba is lucky amongst cities of Cameroon to host the first Higher Technical college in Cameroon with 14 departments.
He used the forum to challenge the Pioneer Director of the school to produce results by coming out with personalities that would meet the challenges of vision 2035 as prescribed by the Head of State, H.E Paul Biya.
For her part, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, Professor Nalova Lyonga urged the Director to instill a spirit of hard-work and commitment in a bid to produce the required results. She as well exhorted the newly promoted teachers to impart knowledge that would yield immediate success.
The HTTTC is veritable gift of appeasement and thanks offered to the people of the South West Region by president Paul Biya. It was offered barely one month after the president travelled to Buea to preside over activities related to the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Reunification of Cameroon.
The HTTTC is peculiar because it offers mostly courses that are highly solicited in the job market. Teachers who will come out of the school are expected to train young Cameroonians capable of integrating enterprises or become self-employed.
Today, Cameroon has six teachers-training colleges (YaoundĂ©, Douala, Maroua, Bamenda and Kumba). Bamenda alone has two teachers’ training schools, notably one for general education and the other for technical education.
In a chat with The Median, the Pioneer Provost of HTTTC Kumba, Prof. Joyce Endeley, said that her immediate challenge is to rehabilitate the temporal sites. She however regretted that the funds were not yet available, but said that as soon as they are made available she would swing into action.
