Breaking with the past:

Tombel CPDM prioritize community development, shuns demagogy
- A trail-blazing joint section conference of CPDM KupeMuaneguba III, Tombel section was held on Saturday 23 July 2016, at the Tombel council hall.

Militants of KupeMuanenguba III, Tombel section of the CPDM party have resolved to use politics as a means towards bringing much-needed development to their community, and not for fostering and promoting individual agendas. This was the major resolution arrived at during the “Joint Section Conference of KupeMuanenguba III section Tombel, on Saturday 23rd July 2016, at the Tombel council hall.
In what can be interpreted as breaking with the past and aligning with French philosopher, Moliere, who said: “Je vis de bon soupe et non de bon language”, translated in English as “it is good food and not fine words that keeps me alive”, militants of Tombel CPDM are unanimous that now is the time for politics of development and poverty alleviation, and no longer politics for self-aggrandizement, demagogy and cheap and empty rhetoric.
That was perhaps why Saturday’s Joint Section Conference was literally transformed into a training workshop to educate, sensitize and build the capacities of party militants on such development-oriented subjects like 2nd generation agriculture; politics and sustainable development; and the nature, end and purpose of education as a veritable tool for personal development of the citizen.
Thus, presenting a paper on the theme “Maintaining sustainable development in the political landscape of Tombel sub-division”, Mr. Nkwelle Jacob, a community development expert, schooled militants and especially political leaders on the need for them to use their political awareness and power to bring development to their community, and not to foster their self-seeking  and individual agendas.
Comrade Nkwelle Jacob reminded political office holders that they have a social contract with their communities and that is why they must serve and render account to their communities and not themselves.
Another resource person Enang James, an agronomist, ruminated on the theme: “potentials, challenges and the way forward for 2nd generation agriculture in KupeMuanenguba division.” He sensitized militants on the need for them to federate their energies, pull their resources together and create small-holders schemes this so that they can produce in large quantities and also give value-added to their market-destined products.

But Mr. Enang at once reminded KupeMuanenguba political leaders that for 2nd generation agriculture to be possible in the division, they must lobby government to provide an enabling environment for the local farmers.  He said there can be no meaningful agriculture without farm-to-market roads, transformation facilities and loan facilities for farmers.
Yet, the capacity-building seminar did not end at that! Militants were also schooled on the virtues of education and the role of the educated man to his community. Thus, espousing on the theme: “The Educated man in our Society,” comrade Mesue Lucas, an educationist, described the educated man as he who is not only imbued with sterling knowledge but he who becomes humble, forgiving, kind-hearted, altruist and benevolent as he result of his education.
He urged CPDM militants, and especially CPDM leaders some of whom miss no opportunity to publicly vaunt their attainments in the academia, to portray and demonstrate true qualities of ‘the genuine intellectual’, if truly they are men of sound and sterling education.
But the rostrum of Tombel council hall was not reserved for development experts alone; political leaders were also given the pride of place.
That is why the guest of honour at the occasion, H.E. Elung Paul Che, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Finance, seized the occasion to muster strong on the need for militants to shun individual agendas and align with the vision and agenda defined by the sole and only leader of the CPDM – President Paul Biya.
Elung Paul reiterated that the era of politics of ego and political wrangling in Tombel CPDM has passed.
“Now is the time to focus and federate our energies on the development of our community. What we need in Tombel is roads, water, schools, health centresetc, and not unnecessary rivalry, witch-hunting and individuals scheming and struggling to elbow their way to the top,” H.E. Elung Paul said, noting with satisfaction that the section executive saw the need to make development the focus of discursions during the conference.
“I am profoundly elated to note that Tombel CPDM has finally come of age and that we have seen the need to align with the development vision and agenda of President Paul Biya. In fact i will return to Yaounde satisfied that we have had a wonderful and very successful conference,” concluded ministerElung Paul, who is also fondly refered to here as “the golden boy” and/or “le meilleurjouer”.
For his part, the representative of the CPDM Central Committee Secretary General, Prof. Elvis NgolleNgolle, who doubles as the president of the permanent central committee delegation for KupeMuanenguba, lectured militants on the need for them to read, comprehend and apply the basic text of the party and to always respect and apply the decisions of the national chairman – comrade Paul Biya. He exhorted the militants to demonstrate a sense of exemplary militancy which encumbers them to be humble, honest and respectful to party hierarchy.
Other speakers including the section president of Tombel, comrade Mesape, the WCPDM section president, Ngube Florence and the YCPDM president all preached unity and reconciliation, noting that the enemy of the CPDM party should be outside and not within the party.
The section president used the occasion to remind government of the bad state of roads in Tombel in particular, and KupeMuanenguba as a whole. He cited notably the Tombel-Bangem-Nguti road and the Loum-Tombel-Kumba stretch, apart from farm-to-market roads.
For her part, Njumbe Florence preached against indecent dressing among young girls and child abuse, calling on government to encourage training in ICTs as a way of reducing joblessness and idleness among young girls.
Heavy feasting concluded the activities of the day. But this was not before a motion of support was issued to President Paul Biya, thanking him for empowering more and more Tombel sons and daughters and hailing his sustained fight against poverty and the insecurity invited by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North.

Reactions

A very educative conference

Honestly, it was arguably the most successful section conference since the creation of the KupeMuanenguba III section. The success was not only in terms of mobilization but more so, in terms of the content of the papers presented. The presentations were very educative and edifying. Even the lay man went home with something. For once the actors shunned demagogy and focused more on development. I think if we continue with this spirit then Tombel CPDM is headed for the skies.

A trail-blazer in Tombel

It was a very successful and trail-blazing conference from every dimension, especially giving the wonderful mobilization and the quality of attendees. Being the first conference after the reorganization exercise, it was comforting that militants demonstrated a high sense of maturity and unity. We saw election losers and winners working together for the success of the event. Above all, militants went home knowing that the party has only one leader – the national president, Paul Biya, and that all others only help the national present to implement his agenda and vision. Beyond these, I think the conference has ushered in a new dawn whereby the development of Tombel is giving pride of place. The papers on education, agriculture and sustainable development were very educative. In fact, it is a big plus for the new and very dynamic section executive.
