Busy 3 weeks for Cameroon Cricket
Fecacricket President, Victor AgborNso talking to the press |
The 2017 Cricket Joint Domestic League and
Cup of Cameroon tournament has kicked-off with matches in different cricket
playgrounds in the country.
The
8 teams tournament organized by the Cameroon Cricket Federation, Fecacricket
with support from its British partners-Cricket without Boundaries and the
Lord’s Traverners (they provided clothing and equipment), will run for three
weeks, according to Fecacricket officials.
In
the first match of day one of the tournament staged on Saturday 5 August 2017
at the ENIET de SOA playground, Academy Cricket club of Douala walloped their
counterparts of Warriors Cricket Club Yaounde by 170 to 35 runs. The 2nd match
saw pathfinders Cricket club of Yaounde defeating Spartans Cricket club of
Etougebe, Yaounde by 64 to 35 runs. While the 3rd match of the very busy day
saw Trailblazers of Yaounde trouncing Cheetahs Cricket Club of Bamenda by 129
to 94 runs.
It
is worthy to not that the 2017 Joint Domestic League and Cup of Cameroon
tourney is coming on the heels of a recycling workshop for Umpires and Scorers
organized by Fecacricket, in Yaounde. The capacity building course was aimed to
train Cameroon Cricket Umpires and Scorers and lift them up to acceptable
international standards.
“Our
ambition is to take Cameroon Cricket to a level that permits us to compete
favorably with big Crickets leagues. But we cannot attain this goal when our
umpires and scorers are not up to date in their mastery of the rules of the
game,” said the Fecacricket president, Victor AgborNso, on the sidelines of the
recent recycling workshop in Yaounde.
Victor
Agbor also noted that the training was timely as it would enable the officials
to live up to the exigencies of the 2017 Joint Domestic League and Cup of
Cameroon tourney that would be played in a home and away basis. Until now the
Joint tournament was played only on a one leg basis.
The
2017 Joint Domestic League and Cup of Cameroon tournament is continuing in
cricket playgrounds around the country. The tournament is expected to produce
the 2017 Cricket Champions and also culminate in the semi-finals and finals of
the 2017 Cricket Cup of Cameroon.
The
crowd-pulling tournament is supervised by the Cricket Focal Point at the
Ministry of Sports and physical education.
