Engineer Ebot David Oballe, regional director of Camwater for the SW and Littoral |
If there was one request that the population of Mamfe
presented to its visiting elite and political leaders, it was that they are in
dire need of regular supply of electricity and drinking water.
The 2nd
deputy mayor of Mamfe, Ashu Princely Ojong, made the solemn request to the
elite, during his scripted welcome remarks at the CPDM joint sections
conference.
Mayor
Princely Ojong told his guests the ordeal that denizens of Mamfe are going
through because of ghost towns has been made worse by the epileptic electricity
supply and almost permanent lack of pipe borne water.
Praying
the elites to use their positions to lobby the authorities of Eneo and Camwater
to urgently restore water and light to Mamfe, he noted that if electricity
comes on intermittently, the water taps have remained permanently dry for over
2 months now.
Yet,
Mamfe is suffering from dry taps even when Camwater’s board chairman, Pa Jerome
Obi Eta, and the regional director for SW & Littoral, Ebot David Oballe,
are both from Manyu.
Camwater heaps blame on Eneo
When
this reporter cornered the regional director of Camwater for the SW and
Littoral, Mr. Ebot David Oballe, who was also attending the CPDM Joint
Conference, he heaped the blame for the dry taps instead on the electricity
supplier, Eneo.
“We
have enough water in stock to supply to the populations. But we cannot do this
because of power shortage,” Oballe said, noting that the epileptic supply of
energy has broken down the machines that Camwater uses to pump water into
supply pipes.
Oballe
however, said that Camwater is not indifferent to the plight of the population,
reason why the company, from time to time, provides water to households through
the use of vehicle tankers.
He
expressed the hope that Eneo will in the near future stabilize its voltage
supply in Mamfe so as to enable Camwater to render adequate services to its
customers.
