The Section President of the ruling CPDM party for Meme II, Mbonge, Senator Otte Andrew Mofa, who doubles as questor of the Senate, has once more demonstrated his fearlessness and love for his people by standing out tall to champion calls for parents to send their children back to school come 4 September for the beginning of the academic year 2017/2018.
Hon. Otte used the occasion of the CPDM Meme Joint section conference on august 19, 2017 at the Kumba Grand Stand to re-echo his plea on parents in the division to send their children in school in other not to violate the fundamental right of the children and put to jeopardy their future.
Harping on the theme for the conference - “Peace and Dialogue”, Otte revealed to the population that the issue of back-to-school was debated upon within the party and resolutions were taken for all children to resume school come September. The Senator revealed that it is time for the various chiefs, youths and different villages in the division to assume their responsibility for self-defence by shunning fear while waiting to government as a last resort in the impasse.

“We convened a section conference which we brought all the education stakeholders, the parents, the teachers and the other officials concern with the educational system and debated upon the issue of education. We gave examples that even upon war-torn countries people still go to school” he explained while adding that “whatever the case children should go back to school because it is a fundamental right for the children to be educated” Otte explained.
He noted that even the much talked about federation is supposed to be run by educated persons and not people who haven’t gone to school. Senator Otte pleaded that people should keep aside the issue of education and forge ahead so that children can have the opportunity to be educated, to govern, to represent the country outside with pride and dignity.
Quizzed what could be done to erase the issue of fear, Otte said “Fear is a psychological problem because I think using social media to threaten others… I think that the villagers should assume their responsibility, the chiefs, traditional rulers, youths and everybody should assume the responsibility of defending himself minus the state… the state cames as a last resort” Otte advised adding that vigilante groups should be created at the level of the villages to take care of certain security situations before it is reported to the hierarchy so that fear can be put aside.  He as well called on government to reinforce security in the various villages to ensure proper school resumption while siting the case of Mbonge with 96 villages and just ba single police post.
Also speaking at the joint section conference was the section president of Meme 1A, Tabot Lawson Bakia who revealed the main motive of the joint section conference was to plead with parents for effective resumption of the academic in September. He advised the parents present not to adhere to calls for respect of ghost towns geared towards thwarting the academic year. “Please don’t take instructions from a ghost and internet generals” Tabot advised.
