Maxcel Fokwen, Kumba Bureau Chief of The Post Newspaper |
A Police officer working with the Kumba Central Police
Station has promised to kill a Kumba-based journalist who called him an
Ambazonian. Kumba Bureau Chief of The Post newspaper, Maxcel Fokwen was on
Friday 15 June 2018 at the newsstand in Kumba located just few metres from the
Central Police Station warned under humiliating circumstances.
He
published a post on his Facebook page saying “If you find my lifeless body then
ask the police officer to explain”.
The
panic-stricken reporter who was traumatized by the threat to his life said it
was on Friday June 15, 2018 at 6:15 pm that the Police officer walked up to him
at the Kumba newsstand. The officer beckoned on him to come before ordering him
to produce his identity card and what followed was a series of questions in French
Fokwen
said all attempts to make the officer understand he was a pressman who simply
came to the newsstand to collect a copy of his newspaper were futile as the
officer gave a deaf ear to it tagging him without any proof or prior
investigation on his person to his colleagues on duty as an ‘Ambazonian’.
"Chef voici l'ambazonien qui vient ici,” said the officer to his colleague
on duty as revealed by Fokwen.
Fokwen
narrated that in an attempt to explain to the officer he didn’t understand what
he meant by "chef voici l'ambazonien qui vient ici” and further insisted
he is a journalist who works in Kumba and has often times visited the police
station for professional work met with a stern warning from the officer.
“ehhh ne blague pas avec moi. Je ne sui pas un
anglophone. Je ne vien pas ici pour ris avec toi. Je
te tue maintenant," Fokwen quoted the warnings the officer on his person
promising he could end his life immediately if I dared him because he was sent
from Yaoundé to come kill.
He added
that the officer then diverted his attention to his professional card which he
told him was left home since Friday was a public adding that before he could
speak further, the officer looked at the complexion of my hands keenly then
opened up his undies and promised further investigations awaited him. Despite
vehemently maintaining that he could not connect with all his insinuations, the
officer made few steps towards the newsstand and then returned his confiscated
Identity card before promising him further doom.
Quizzed
if he has alerted the Kumba Central Police boss Fokwen noted “I made an
immediate call to the central police commissioner for Kumba. He's promised to
investigate the threat to life on my person. I impatiently await the outcome of
his findings”. It should be noted that before Friday’s threat to take away
life, anonymous callers have made similar attempts on his person which he has
ignored.
