The Treasurer Paymaster General of Buea has intimated that the financial execution rate for the South West Region is impressive despite challenges which stem from the ongoing security situation in the region.
Angoula Mbassi Ananias was speaking during the First Coordination meeting of the Public Accountants of the South West Region Financial Jurisdiction for the 2019 financial year, November 28, 2019 at the Buea Council chamber.
The public accountants were engaged in discussions of the financial activities for the 2019 year, and the level of execution of projects for the South West Region. This year, the total revenue collected decreased by 28.6 per cent as opposed to the 2018 figures. In the expenditure category, it increased by 5.2 per cent with respect to 2018.
End of year operations, the building of a management account and the various abnormalities brought out by the audit bench of the Supreme court, The Procedure of Award of Public Contracts according to the New Public Contracts Code, as well as the report of activities were some of the top deliberations on the agenda during the meeting.
The meeting which took place at the Buea Council hall on Thursday November 28 2019 was spearheaded by the Secretary General at the South West Governor's office, Dr. Mohammadu.
He enjoined the accountants to produce their very best and brave all odds despite the difficult times.
According to the Treasurer-Paymaster General Angoula Mbassi Ananias, the financial execution rate of the South west region is good despite the challenges faced this year especially that in regard to security. In terms of revenue, about 20 billion has been collected and there has been a small decrease as compared to that of last year. The level of expenditure has increased from 8billion last year to 9 billion this year. A lot of efforts has been put in place so the common buisness man is fine.
He said, "The SWR is improving its financial records. I cannot say it's OK meaning we have cleared everything but we still have some outstanding payments but with the support of the hierarchy, and stakeholders we will be able to pay them by the end of the year."

Lack of liquidity and the present crisis have posed certain challenges but we are doing everything possible with the help of the administration to ensure that everything regains its glory in their respective domains. "Challenges are still there because of the present crisis we are in. We are working with the administration to see to it that people go back to their site especially in areas where credit stations are not functional," He said.
“The South West region is a particular region given the security situation. We have a problem of mobility and resources and to overcome this problem certain prerequisites have been put in place in the course of this first coordination meeting” Rep. Director General of Treasury, Financial and Monetary Cooperation, Eyong Eric Eyong
The Secretary General at the South West region Dr Mohammadu added that despite the various difficulties, the various public accountants have done their very best for the 2019 financial year. While encouraging them, he also enjoined the public accountants to play their key role in the decentralization process by improving the level of collection especially now that things are returning to normalcy in the region.
“It is hoped that by 2020 we would get important improvement in terms of revenue collection. Let them be up to the execution task of the financial execution of the various councils and to also get and mobilise necessary means to put at the disposal of the councils for the execution of their various projects for the benefit of our population” he noted.
